We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamilee Webb and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamilee, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
The smell of hot coffee in the morning, playing with my fur babies, and watching the sunset with good friends are a few things that make me happy. I believe it’s up to us to be happy. Each morning I wake up and give gratitude for all I have then I review my day and plan accordingly. If I’m thrown a wrench in my day I look for solutions to solve the problem that brings me back to my happy place. We always have a choice Don t judge the feeling, acknowledge it, forgive and move toward our goals.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Being in the health & fitness business since 1986, I’ve seen it grow and change repeatedly. What worked then isn’t even thought of in today’s world of technology. So there is always continuous change and a learning curve to stay current.
Starting my business when aerobic studios were popping up, and primarily women filling up every space available to get their sweat on. I was teaching at many of these studios but knew there were millions more women I could help if I did fitness videos. So setting my mind and the desire to take my programs on videos, I was a match for a new title called BUNS OF STEEL.
Many think I came up with the great name BUNS OF STEEL, but I did not. Its original owner is Greg Smithy. He did one video, then the company, the Marier Group, decided it needed a woman for the brand. So that is where I came in, and I became the Brand!
I created 22 titles and sold more than 14-million videos, which launched my own brand Tamilee Webb. I knew if I listen to what women were asking for and create my workouts based on that, it had to be successful. Sure there are challenges along the way, which I took as a stop, breath, and regroup. Reacho out to those you admire that usually are happy to give you advice.
I love the saying “If you want to hear GOD laugh, tell him your plan.” Things may never go as you planned but if you love what you do and are open to learning, listening, and being patient there is always a way to your goal.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Awe, living in one of the most beautiful cities in California, San Diego, is fun to show off my hometown. We’d first begin downtown, where there are outstanding harbors with great views. We’d then jump on the fairy to Coronado Island to ride bikes around the cute town that offers unique shops, then stop for lunch at the Hotel Del Coronado.
Then we would head to North county (my neck of the woods) to Cardiff by the Sea, where I would take them for a training session at SCEND FITNESS in Solana Beach; we must get a workout. Afterward, a stroll on the beach to take in the fresh air, feel the sand between our toes and enjoy vitamin D from the sun. Finally, we’d finish the evening with a healthy dinner at my favorite restaurant Pacific Coast Grill on the beach in Cardiff.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My biggest supporter was my father, William “Willie’ Webb. Growing up my Dad encouraged us, kids, to go after our dreams, and there was no dream small or big that we couldn’t achieve. He felt it would be easier for me, as a woman, to have an education behind me, which meant a college degree.
Unfortunately, my father passed before he could see me graduate with a master’s degree in Exercise Science. Whenever I might doubt myself I can hear my father’s words which bring a smile to my face, and strength to continue onward.
