We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamla Gaston and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamla, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After working in the Non-Profit sector for over 25 years, I was pretty burned out. I wanted to do something different, something that would allow me to continue helping others. But, I also wanted to feel excited about what I was doing. I wanted to be happy and satisfied with the services I was providing. I knew early on that I wanted to continue being of service, but I wanted it to be in an area of service that was important to me, and my own journey.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Tamla Michelle Holistic is a wellness brand, centered around whole self wellness, particularly for women of c color. Ten years ago, I was diagnosed with an auto immune disorder. The doctors thought the best course of action was to medicate me. But after months of research, I knew for sure, that A Lifestyle Based On Ancient Wisdom And Traditions was key to my healing, not just physically, but spiritually, Mentally, And Emotionally as well. My Purpose with Tamla Michelle Holistic, Is To Continue Seeking, Understanding, And Sharing The Ancestral Practices That Were, And Still Are, Very Sacred, Necessary, And Valid. To Be A Voice And A Safe Space For Women of Color Who Are Seeking A Connection To Their Own Divine And Sacred Feminine.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I really love food, but I eat pretty healthy. Mostly I cook, and I cook really well. But, if I wanted to take them out for a good meal, I would choose several of my favorite restaurants, Esan Thai, Karam Lebanese, and Nicolas’s Lebanese and Mediterranean. I love Indian, Thai, Ethiopian, and Lebanese food, so these are probably the restaurants we would visit. I am a really low key person, so I don’t get out much. Definitely have never been part of the night scene, so can’t really think of any hot spots. I love walks, and think one of the most calm places to visit, within the city, is the Burnt Bridge Creek trail in Vancouver, WA. It is a 15 mile walking trail, with about 8 miles of it following a stream and is heavily wooded. This is the part of the trail I visit often. Its is a serene space for meditation. Most of my friends are more excited about spending time with me and my children. They dig how we vibe, so they usually just show up to sit and have a good time with some good food and wine with me and my family.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Oh my, there are a few people that directly had an impact on my success. My children first and foremost. They were definitely instrumental in encouraging me and helping me to start and continue growing my business. Their support, both emotional and financial, throughout has been amazing. Also, my crystal therapy instructor, Ashley Leavy, Founder and Educational Director of the Love and Light School of Crystal Therapy. Not only did Ashley approve me for a full scholarship to Love and Light, her wisdom, encouragement, and genuine kindness continues to motivate me even after graduating and receiving my certification.
