We had the good fortune of connecting with Teresa Dinneen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Teresa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
There were two very important factors that led me to start my own business and those were, to be able to spend more time with my kiddos and to help people. Being a business owner allows me to do both and I now see that starting my Organization Company drastically changed my way of life, for the better. The ability to chose the projects I work on and when I do them allows me to be a home when my kids are at home, and at work when they are in school. Plus, helping clients declutter and organize their spaces, giving them a home or office they truly love and feel comfortable in, makes all the hard work so worth it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets Lifestyle(d) apart from the rest is our stylistic approach to organizing. Myself and team all come from a fashion or interior design background which allows us to organize your home in a way that’s both functional as well as aesthetically pleasing. I spend the first 20 years of my career in the fashion industry working with brands like Quiksilver, JBrand and TOMS. Those years taught me skills that were beyond helpful when starting my own company. Yet nothing can really prepare you for the trials and tribulations that come with starting a business, solo, from the ground up. I know I am great and organizing and client relations and styling…but quickly found out that I am not great at marketing or accounting (sorry dad). Therefore I had to step out of my comfort zone and ask those questions, read the books, listen to the podcasts and really learn all I could from experts in those fields I knew less about. And i’m still learning more everyday. Lifestyle(d) is a growing company that really thrives on helping our clients see the benefits of living an organized and streamlined life. And we loving helping them get there, by creating personalized systems so they can maintain the organization after we leave.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Let’s be honest, not many people are traveling these days and with two young kids at home and a business, i’m not getting out much haha! But with that being said, I am beyond grateful to live in a community that people come to visit from all over the world. So we don’t need to go far to have the best time ever! Here is the South Bay we get to enjoy the beaches all year round, plus it’s hard not to live an active lifestyle with the miles of strand to run or ride bikes on. I could literally spend an entire day at the beach, watching the kids surf and drinking wine with my besties. Plus we have some amazing restaurants right here in our little community. My all time favorite for coffee and breakfast is Two Guns. Then my go to lunch spots are The Source Cafe, Fishing with Dynamite and Little Simmzy’s with the kiddos. Our go to family dinner place is Nick’s, and the best date night spots are Love and Salt or Author J’s. Oh and I cannot leave out our favorite local Mexican restaurant, El Gringo which we literally order twice a week. You could also spend the day walking the town and checking out all our great local shops. My favorites are Beehive, BLVD and Waverly for the cutest, on trend clothes. Gum Tree and Waterleaf by far has the best home goods and gifts and Spyder surf is my go to for the kids clothes and beach gear. All are locally owned and operated which are my favorite to support. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I 100% could not have started this business without the support of my family! Plus a huge thank you to all my friends who trusted me to organize their homes when I was first getting started and needed spaces to practice on. And to all my current clients who graciously allow us into their homes each and everyday to help organize their spaces. And a huge thank you to my employees…as Lifestyle(d) wouldn’t be here without them!
