We had the good fortune of connecting with The Songery and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi The Songery, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Authenticity. No doubt about it, and this answer also answer’s another question you have listed as a starter question, “What have I learned in trying to start this/pursuing it?”… I have to find my message, and stay as true as I possibly can be to it. Integrity is everything to me. When you attempt to make anything of yourself, out on your own, it’s imperative you find your own way, and be your own person. And I’m personally such a people pleaser! But you have to be true to you, because anything else will burn you out, or fade away… but if you stay true to yourself and what you’re about, that fire may ember, but it will never burn out.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
A lot of what drives my art, is my desire to have people better understand themselves, and as a result, each other. I am quite crafty about the content I decide to share; it’s all conceptual and feeds into each other… and I feel has very little do with me, as a person. Personally, I have had to attenuate a lot of personal issues to arrive at where I am today: general anxiety disorder (yes, it is a thing and it’s terrible), depression, eating disorders, various self harm… a lot of that fuels the eagerness, intensity, passion… whatever you want to call it behind my music, but I never want to make it the forefront. I want to speak to people who have faced personal hardship however slight, and want them to know they have it within themselves to become a better person.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Interesting question… it is 2020… but even if everything is open, is it ok if I say… depends on who the person is? Assuming they were someone similar to me… we would hit up Dark Delicacies in Burbank, all the little shops around Magnolia for that matter in downtown Burbank… old bookstores… and we would visit a lot of local cemeteries and parks. Three things I love in life: nature, books, and the macabre.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I think on some level, my mom believes what I am doing now is what I was always meant to do… she fought with me on it so hard, yet simultaneously fully supported my heart. She allows me to sing in her house at 2am and has never complained about it… that alone deserves a thanks. Also, some of my friends… they know there’s nothing else I’d feel more fulfilled doing… and also, my moderators on Twitch.tv…. they poor so much time and attention into my performances, and they do it all for free AND THEN give me financial support when they can. All because they genuinely believe in me. Even when I tell myself to give up, I keep going and it’s mostly because of them.
I took all the photos myself.
