We had the good fortune of connecting with Tim Kim and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tim, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When David Hockney started exploring his ipad drawings, he would send them to his friends as if they’re fresh flowers. I thought that was a neat idea and decided to try it for myself. My method of sending fresh flowers were through emails because I liked the idea of the image going directly to the person. I started out sending out the drawings of flowers to my friends and I eventually started posting them on TikTok as well. Random followers would sign up to receive the flowers and now it’s a growing list of 600+ emails I send fresh flowers to everyday.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think I’m just starting out my artist career. Everything is still in incubation. I’m still learning to express myself and I don’t have the full control over the medium. It’s not easy and it’s not rewarding at times but I feel compelled to do this, because I don’t see anything else that’d have the potential to leave my name behind.

The daily flowers have been great at keeping me going. I feel satisfied with making at least one drawing each day. I guess I feel less guilty due to it. It’s important to keep the drawings “light” so that I don’t feel pressured to do it. I feel that once they become a burden to me, I’d stop doing them. Doing things daily, consistently all comes down to how easy and effortless they become.

I started the daily fresh flowers project after reading about how David Hockney would send ipad drawings of his flowers to his friends. I thought it was such a neat and sweet idea. I started out with just friends and family but gathered strangers emails through posting the drawings on tiktok. People ask me why I send it on email and not other social channels, but I like the idea of the drawings making it to the person’s inbox. Our inboxes are full of junk or stressful content, so I like the fact that the flowers kind of give you a sense of comfort in one’s busy and hectic lives.

If you’re reading this, you can also sign up to the flowers, all flowers are sent in a BCC list.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being a Korean in LA, I gotta take you to Ktown. Some of my favorite restaurants are in Ktown. Feng Mao, Jinsol, and Ye Cafe are some of my go-to spots so I’d probably take them there if they’re down with Korean food.

I’m also an avid surfer so hitting the beach is always a good idea. From Countyline to PV Cove, I’ve got your LA surf spots checked for you.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d shoutout my wife Hanseul Kim. She’s my anchor and guiding lighthouse.
