Today we’re excited to be connecting with Tina Hogan Grant again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.

Tina Hogan, thanks for joining us again. Just to level set a bit for folks who may have missed our last interview together, can you briefly introduce yourself?
I found my passion for writing later in life and published my first book in 2018. Since that magical day, I have written 16 more books and enjoying every moment.

I came to the United States from England in 1979, chasing the American Dream, but instead, I lived a nightmare because of my terrible choices and many mistakes. I was young when I moved here, and the first ten years were a struggle but extremely challenging. It was these life lessons that led me to my writing career. Twenty years later after spending the next ten years on the Pacific Ocean making a living as a commercial fisherwoman, I decided to write my story which ended up being an award-winning trilogy.

My books focus on family values, drama, and crises with strong female characters who know what they want and figure out how to win and achieve their goals.

Awesome, so we reached out because we wanted to hear all about what you have been up to since we last connected.
A lot has happened since my last interview. I had a new release in August 2024. The book is called “Secrets Told,” and it’s a story that shows the power of the past and takes you on a journey of self-discovery with the importance of family being the focal point. I’m proud to say that the book won The BookFest 2024 Gold Medal award for Best Women’s Fiction.

I also started a Podcast where I interview fellow authors twice a month. We talk about our writing journey, writing techniques, what inspired us to write, and where we get our inspiration for our books. We give publishing and writing tips and discuss our latest work. The Podcast is called “A Cuppa and A Natter and airs twice a month.

I am currently writing my next book which I hope to have published sometime in May and it’s called, “A Daughter’s Secret.” Molly the protagonist is on a journey to seek the life she was denied.

I continue to do live local events and hope to be at the LA Book Festival again this year.

We have now arrived at one of our favorite parts of the interview – the lightning round. We’ll ask you a few quick questions to give us all some fun insights about you.

Life is often about tough choices – can you talk to us about your thought process, strategy or philosophy when it comes to making difficult choices or tradeoffs.
I mentioned previously that I have made many terrible decisions in my life but each one taught me a valuable lesson that allowed me to grow and be a stronger person. What held me back was the fear of change. Many of us get too comfortable in our lives, even if we are not happy and we tend to settle, forgetting that we all have choices. Making that change can be frightening and in some cases, it takes courage, My books relate to such experiences and connect with my readers who are facing such challenges in their own lives.

We all try to set goals in our lives but sometimes striving for huge goals can be overwhelming, if this is the case, take baby steps to achieve them and reward yourself after each step even if it’s as simple as crossing it off a list. If you like lists like I do then you know what a great feeling it is to cross an item off.
