We had the good fortune of connecting with Too Nasty and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Too, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I always felt it in my blood from a young age. Hip-hop always spoke to me in some way or form, I think back and even though I was in to stuff like Linkin Park/Limp Bizkit from like 9 – 13 it was always the rapping on those tracks that caught my ear. When I got deep into the genre I just had an urge to create beats and the more I learned the more engrossed I got in it. If you have a special talent you’ve got to roll with it one way or another! If it’s really in your heart you’ll never give up. Eventually it’ll take you places.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a big time super producer (yet) but in a couple parts of LA I’ve built a reputation with underground artists as the best mixing/mastering service available for the price, I took a hiatus to upgrade my set-up and folks were telling me their tracks don’t sound the same without my touch.. I pay attention to detail and have a good ear for what I do. I also make high quality beats and rap. It ain’t even about the money to me because I love hearing tracks come out dope and just being part of the culture working with real artists.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Haha, where I’m from in England is boring as hell, I’d take them out of here for sure.. the plan of action would include alcohol. When I was in LA I saw a lot of places, from South Central to Beverly Hills, it’s a beautiful and varied city, would definitely have to hit Venice beach, but yo, you can’t beat an American cookout.. you guys do it different out there!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My man Luis Aponte aka Ay Skrooge; my dude that put me on the right track with my melody work in the early days, he taught me a lot in the beginning. My guy Marion White aka Half-Sane needs credit for being the 1st rapper to really roll with me, we made a lot of music way back! Definitely all of the Drodians: Aaron Lucas aka Killahronh, Bert Lucas aka Sneek Rothstein, Robert Ramirez aka Irie2012, Carmen Dominguez aka KillahCarm, Sean Slagel aka Slag Dogg, Nick Parker aka Nick Furee. And can’t forget my man Wayne G!
