We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyre Mills and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tyre, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor in the success of what I do is passion. Passion fuels everything else. I know this because there have been other endeavors that I once pursued in life, and while I liked doing them, the passion wasn’t there and I could feel it. My passion for what I do today won’t allow me to quit my craft, no matter how many times I may fail at it I cannot let it go under any circumstances. God continues to reveal more for me in this path daily, and he instilled this passion for film and Photography in me as a calling.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a Director of Photography I have learned to set myself apart by studying the smaller parts of filmmaking that most other people don’t look at. As a former athlete myself, I approach my craft the same way I used to approach the game. I was never a big strong guy, nor did I posses one superstar skill in the game, I made myself quick as I could become and I learned to outthink my opponents in the game many times because it takes no extra physical skill to do that. I wasn’t born rich, and I have always had to Scavenge for much of the equipment I now have over the years, I’ve sacrificed many of life’s other spoils and pleasures to invest in educating myself and invest time into practicing my craft, and I’ve always had to find ways to get the job done that isn’t always pretty to the masses. I am the king of DIY, anything I can’t afford at the moment, I find a way to create it or build it . I say all this to say that, I got to where I am now, and am still progressing toward my next level because I have always approached this craft with the mentality of always being a student hungry to learn more. I love learning more about what I do and practicing it more than anything. I also love taking risks.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first place Id take anyone is Malibu beach, Laguna or Huntington Beach. Th e beach is probably the best blessing we all have to enjoy here in California. Next I would say The Crustecean Restaurant and other restaurants in downtown Los Angeles. Long Beach and Westwood. Hollywood is always great to find something to do at night. Live Music, Night clubs & Universal city walk.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My dedication of this shoutout first and foremost goes to God. I wouldn’t be here on my journey and blessed as I am without his love and guidance that brought me out of dark places to be where I am now. Secondly My family, my mother and her strength and belief in me, my brothers and their encouragement in me. My entire team at Ryda 4 Life Filmz, Pastor Michael JT Fisher my Pastor/big brother/frat brother.
