We had the good fortune of connecting with Victor Yuen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Victor, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Honestly, the biggest risk is betting that tomorrow should mean anymore to us than today. When I started to comprehend “promises” versus what exists in the present, I realized the least risks in life come in this moment. So all my chips are placed on betting on my current actions today/now as I pursue what carries meaning… This only leaves opportunity for greater meaning in what lies for tomorrow.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As an ex-muralist, I come to pursue my past couple years in the business of branding. The switch from painting murals and doing commissioned illustrations had its limitations of fulfillment. Not financially, but in what I felt brought existential purpose.
What I’ve come to be most proud of, is the deep relationships I’ve made. With this, I’ve come to quit branding full-time for something deeper. Tangible Gratitude- a business with the people’s story to tell, with luxury items we consume day-to-day.
Was it easy to come to this pursuit? In the front face of it, sure. In the mental space? Not at all.
One of the greatest things I’ve learned through all of this, is the meaning of gratitude.
Gratitude tends to be the byproduct of “positive” experience or an event, in other words, a temporary outlook. What the world may come to figure, is that their lives are just as much an event to experience. To figure this, leaves gratitude as an afterthought for the happening. What if the world lived with gratitude, instead of living for a “promised” byproduct. Wouldn’t that be a luxury?
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A friend visiting the area? Hermosa Beach’s finest Italian cuisine, Sosta Cucina, is a must… Might be the best savoury experience in town. But in the day, you can bet on my hauling a friend to HiFi Espresso or Offset Coffee to indulge in a quality morning ritual. Honestly I might be one of the most mellowest individuals, we’ll probably go for a walk/bike ride on the Marvin Beside trail and make a pit stop at the Standing Room in Redondo Beach. I don’t know, this all may sound like a simple day/time as a random dude in the South Bay. It can’t get much better than that!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This far… much credit goes to the most hospitable coffee communities, especially based in the South Bay, that have shown me faith in expressible value. Another great item that has influenced my pursuit is the book “Going Right” by Logan Gelbrich. I also may not have been able to muster the courage to pursue if the present if weren’t for a few highly dynamic individuals, Brandon and Chory. Thank you.
