We had the good fortune of connecting with YaLLa The Melodica and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi YaLLa, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I am someone that struggles with social anxiety so writing music is a way to express myself. It’s something that came natural for me. I love creating music that’s multidimensional and sends everyone into this atmosphere of pure bliss and melodic sounds.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Disco Pop artist. My melodic sounds come from the very creative voices in my head. I am proud of my work ethic. I work a regular 9-5 and fully fund every project that I do. It can be extremely exhausting at times, but I put everything into my craft. I started reaching out to different publications along with my Bestfriend Brandi, and the results have been insane. I’ve learned that if you do not believe in yourself first then no one will. I know that sounds cliche and a bit redundant, but it’s true. I knew that I needed to get out of my own head in order to release what I believe to be some of my best work yet. I want the world to know that although I have this coy personality, there is something greater inside of me. I want to show everyone all of this beauty and love inside of me and that’s through my music.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Adventurous Melodica loves anything with nature. I love hiking and going for Jamaican food or street tacos in Crenshaw. I’m an LA county girl so I love hearing them come down the street honking their horns on the Eloté cart. I also love going to 3rd street promenade in Santa Monica. You wanna shop! I mostly hang with my local queers, family, and my bestie, Brandi. I love spending time at home in my room after coming home from work though. My bed has to be my favorite spot.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve always had my siblings as my support, but someone who has been in my circle since the beginning is my cousin Kamri Cymone. From making up dances with me as a teenager, listening to my poems, sitting with me just to hear me rant, and coming to my shows knowing all of my songs. Anything that I wanted to do or be, she supported with no questions. When I came out to the world, her reaction was so gentle and so loving. I couldn’t imagine a world without this beautiful human being in it. She exudes so much positive energy. I owe her the whole world. So shoutout to you Twinny. I love you.
