We had the good fortune of connecting with Yana Beranek and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yana, what do you attribute your success to?
I am an immigrant and a self-made woman. I came here from Novosibirsk – a city in Siberia, Russia, almost 20 years ago. Coming from Russia, I hoped to find a better future in the United States and build a career. I was looking to find stable ground, a safe home, and success in whatever future had in store for me. It seems like my dreams came true: today, I am an experienced real estate industry professional and a founder of Beranek Realty Group (BRG).

My journey to real estate was not so straightforward. Back in Russia, I was a luxury glasses shop owner. Upon arriving in Los Angeles, I tried various career paths, including being a restaurant owner and working in the fashion industry. I established my first connection with real estate when I bought my first property in the U.S. as an investment. Now, it’s been eight successful years at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties.

One of the things I pride myself in – which I think helped my business drastically – is being different. When I say I am different, I don’t just mean that I speak two languages and come from a foreign country (even though that plays a significant role too). I am different in my ways of thinking. I am a hassler who is not afraid of hard work or trying out and implementing innovations. I constantly take risks by trying new things in my business, adopting new approaches with clients, and learning from my mistakes and successes. I pick up on trends quickly and constantly seek to advance my knowledge in the fast-growing real estate industry: for example, I am currently studying to get certified to conduct sales with cryptocurrency and NFTs. I also extend my international upbringing by participating in the diversity and inclusion board at Berkshire Hathaway to improve the company’s policies. So, the main factor of my success is constant learning and embracing that I am different!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
A part of my success is my unique approach to my business. I look differently at conducting business with my clients. I create personal connections with clients and understand who they are and what they are looking for. When representing sellers, I look at their properties with a social approach. I always love to know the history and background of people’s homes, as I believe that captivating history and details will always set one home apart from the other. I love interviewing house designers and architects and talking to owners to get a glimpse of what it’s like to interact with the property. This storytelling allows me to generate unique marketing materials and use them in advertisements for the property.

Often, I don’t just focus on the local market. My client base is solid, consisting of creative, talented, and successful people from various backgrounds. Therefore, when I represent the seller, I always reach out to my past connections nationwide and abroad if they seem to be a good fit for the property. I also pay extra attention to the open house demographics and target my advertisements of the property accordingly. People-watching is always a fun experiment within the real estate world!

My team is a big part of Beranek Realty Group’s success. They all are talented, energetic, and driven real estate professionals from international backgrounds who are very good at finding the real needs of the buyers. I also have an assistant who brings her creative knowledge and dedication to the table by always taking our team to the next level with her marketing knowledge. I love and respect my team and always root for their success.

Another thing about my brand is consistency. First, all my communications channels are branded accordingly, whether it’s email or social media. I have websites and social media channels in Russian and English to better accommodate my clients’ needs. Regardless of the language, my branding assets are visible throughout, and they serve as a constant reminder of Beranek Realty Group values. However, BRG is also uniquely consistent with the relationships we build with clients. My team provides full-circle services. We help clients evaluate their properties and aid them during buying or selling process. We also help investors discover properties, purchase them and find tenants. Lastly, I believe that the connections we make with clients are everlasting. I always love to reach out to my older clients with market updates, holiday wishes, or open-house invitations. Building a solid and loyal clientele has been at the top of our goals list as a team, and I am happy to see us improve with each transaction.

Being bilingual is a plus in the ever-growing Russian-speaking market within the Los Angeles community. Communicating in two languages helps me negotiate for my clients successfully, provide them with the best experiences, and explain the dynamics of the U.S. market. Now with a Russian-Ukrainian war, there are a lot of people immigrating to Los Angeles that are looking for properties to lease and buy. I get like five calls daily from people from Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus seeking my help! I would not be able to handle the saturated demand if it wasn’t for my team!

Since joining the industry, I have been working hard to deliver exemplary customer service to be a top specialist in the real estate industry. My hard work paid off, and I have received National Award Recognition, as well as the President’s Circle Gold (’19 & ’20) and Diamond Awards (’21) for my excellence in sales. In 2022, I was named a Berkshire Hathaway Top 100 Agent in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and Ventura County for the second time in a row. I am also in the top half of 1% of the network within Berkshire Hathaway.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Venice, one of my favorite neighborhoods in Los Angeles! I love strolling down Abbot Kinney Street with my dogs, so that’s where all my favorite spots are. I love Felix Trattoria, Piccolo, The Tasting Kitchen, and, of course, Gjelina. I also recently went to Meteora restaurant in Hollywood, which I loved. The ambiance and cuisine were so incredible and charming.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My journey wouldn’t be the same without the support of my family and mentors. I wanted to thank my husband for always being patient when I had to work long hours or spend my weekends at open houses. He is always here to have my back. I am also incredibly grateful to George Salazar, my first mentor at Berkshire Hathaway. He shared his best practices and encouraged me to strive to be the best. I’ve been with Berkshire Hathaway California for eight years, and I am overjoyed to be a part of this fantastic company. My office manager, Melissa Ellis, is also an incredible leader who consistently recognizes me for my accomplishments, and I couldn’t be happier here.
