We had the good fortune of connecting with Zane Vandevort and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zane, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
I’d love to quit my day job and get to be creative for a living. I see myself touring, writing, and recording music without worrying about paying the bills someday. There’s nothing I enjoy more than challenging myself and expressing how I feel through songs. It would be a dream to be a full time artist and focus on creating timeless pieces of work which will live on past my time on this planet.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started playing live music at a young age. I was enrolled in Rock Nation School of Music, where I was placed into bands with other kids. We’d practice a handful of cover songs for a few weeks, and then play a show for all the parents and friends. I’m so grateful I got to experience that at such a young age, it definitely set me off on the right foot. Since then I’ve played in a few original bands, until about 5 years ago when I started Strange Case with my best friend Mikey Netka. It’s been a long road already, and the journeys only just begun. It’s funny how long it takes to figure out the vision, and hone in on your sound. I feel as if we are just not finding out who we are, yet we’ve been doing it for years. I think the most important part about the journey is not giving up. It’s easy to get frustrated, or entitled when you’ve done something for a few years with little success. Music is something Mikey and I are dead set on, and we will not accept no for an answer.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you are ever in Ventura, CA, you MUST go to Corrales for a breakfast burrito. It’s our go to spot after a morning surf session and it wont disappoint. I would giveaway a few surf spots, but those are going to have to stay on the DL, or I’ll be outed by the surf community haha.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My friends and family have been die hard supporters of my creative ventures since I was a little kid. They’ve encouraged me to do what I love without compromise. I have friends who drive hours up the coast to watch us perform, and I’m never short on people who push me to follow my dreams. I’m so grateful for my inner circle for listening to countless demos and giving me their unbiased feedback. It’s been so important for me and I couldn’t do it without them. Thank you Mom, Dad, Zinger, Paris, Taryne, Mikey, Finn, Roxanne and many many others whom always support my passion. You guys rock.
