We had the good fortune of connecting with Zia Bossenmeyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zia, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Balance is the most important indicator of health, I feel. When one area of your life is preoccupying your time, energy and focus you can feel either invigorated or depleted.

In the past two years, my views on work-life balance have changed drastically. In 2019, I was working full time for someone else. Living in constant fear of not having a job from day-to-day, in an unhealthy toxic workplace. I was working 11-hour days and not having any kind of a life outside of work. Gratefully I received a Tower moment (tarot reference) that eliminated that job from my life. 2020 was a completely new year and brought with it a completely new way of approaching life and perspective about what is important.
2019, I was full of grief and stress and it affected my health and more importantly my brain. I went from having a photographic memory with great analyzing skills to having trouble recalling words and feeling like perhaps I had early onset Alzheimer’s. I even went to the doctor to check. This showed me how deeply stress affects one’s health. From that moment forward, I decided that no matter what I was going to take my business from hobby and side project to full-time focus; and never work for anyone else again.
In starting my business and getting it off the ground I took the more feminine approach and every morning asked myself what my body needed and my soul desired. I decided against the masculine approach of force. I wasn’t going to force myself to sit at my computer for 12 hours every day. I wasn’t going to force anything. I would go with the flow of what I desired in each moment. Honoring my body and myself. Every day no longer looked the same. I would meditate, journal, do tarot for socials, work on graphics or design courses, walk my dog and rest, when I wanted and how I wanted it.
The most profound and difficult process was resting when I felt the need to rest without guilt. And taking time for fun. It took about a whole year of listening to my body and allowing that societally programmed productivity belief to start to unravel and exit my system. I rest often and believe it’s so important especially for women, to follow their lunar cycles and listen. I come back to my projects refreshed and inspired, sometimes one day of rest is all you need. I no longer work Monday – Friday, due to this. Releasing ideas about “work hours” “Work week” and “productivity = value” is the best thing I could have done for myself, my health, my business.
It wasn’t an easy process but it has been so worth it. I feel more me than I have in my entire life.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is called The Violet Crow. It’s still in the first 5 years of growth and development. I’m so proud of how many products and offerings I’ve been able to develop and grow in a short amount of time.

My first big launch that I’m really proud of is my Energy Healing 1 : Learning your Field online course. It’s a journey I’ve designed for people after attending a woman’s retreat and hearing so many women state their need for one. I follow Human Design and have been integrating the fundamental’s into how I do business. Creating products and programs in response, which is how Generators are most influential & successful.

For a number of years my focus was 100% on healing, rehabilitating and advocating for animals. That work is very emotional, very expensive and hard on the heart. After 15+ years, I realized that helping the animals was more of a band-aid because Hurt People Hurt People and the world would be a better place if everyone had access to healing tools that worked. I learned that pharmaceutical medicines and traditional therapy didn’t work for me. Herbs, diet and shamanic energy healing practices and working with spiritual healers that address the mind, body and emotions and soul did. This 4-body approach is what makes the difference. I learned to trust myself, love myself and have compassion for myself and others. It is this “medicine” I provide and approach that worked for me. This is what I share with others now.

My work with others is for them to feel sacredly empowered within their lives. No longer held back by stuffed emotions, poor boundaries, and stagnant energy fields. I want everyone to access all the love, joy and connection with intuition & spirit that is there and available to them.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love waking up and walking down to Cafe Collage for an americano. Then getting in my car to drive to Point Dume to see the whales, dolphins or seals that swim through. It is one of my favorite “secret spots” that I don’t think a lot of people know about. I am obsessed with nature so I love to call up friends and see who wants to go to The Huntington Library to walk the gardens and have lunch. Even if no one will go I will take a book or journal sometimes to spend the day. It’s such a stunning place to decompress from city life. If it’s a special occasion I like to take my friends to Plant Food & Wine on Abbot Kinney. It’s close, but it is The Best Restaurant in LA in my opinion. Every bite is savored. Ambiance and amazing service. You can’t get a better meal anywhere in my opinion. I love music and dancing so I would say Thursday nights are spent at RESPECT LA which is the longest running drum n bass night in LA. I’ve been attending since I was 19 and I’m 40 now. Let’s just say we’ve been through a lot together and music is medicine. I also love I Love LA day parties which are a monthly event.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I could not have made it through 2020 and starting my business without the help of my Mentor Nicole Oman and my best friend Candy Murrell. Both are energy healers and spiritual coaches same as me. What I love is one lives in Colorado and one in New Zealand. The internet has brought two of my favorite people to me and we are connected worldwide.
