We had the good fortune of connecting with Ziarekenya Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ziarekenya, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Well, it wasn’t the usual route for sure, haha. For starters, I never really had a set idea on a business idea. All I knew at the time was I enjoy freelancing as a digital artist and working for myself. So I saw myself doing that for the rest of my life. But what I didn’t see is myself creating for companies all my life. So back in 2014, when I graduated as an Advanced Achiever from Full Sail University, “The Harvard of creative schools” with a Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Art & Designs. During my four-year tenure at Full Sail, I over succeeded in my degree, allowing me to experience a more significant deal of success than my peers.

Like any field or degree you excel at, you eventually come to a crossroads, where you ask yourself do I want to continue this for the next 5-10 years of my life, or do I want to try something new? I realize the success and the money that came with it were no longer feeding me. I always needed to wake up every day knowing why I am here. Why? Because the two most significant moments in your life are when you are born and when you realize why you are born.

That’s when the quest begins searching for my purpose on this blue dot and figuring out how I can make a living off of it. During every journey, you hit a low point in life. You know the human experience. My low point happened when my family started to doubt me, questioning my decision-making and ultimately giving up on me because they couldn’t understand why I was giving up a flourishing career. They couldn’t understand I was looking for fulfillment in the work I produce. I wanted my work to mean something, not just keep making companies like Nike, Jordan Brand, Tecent 腾讯, and other Fortune 500 companies wealthy.

But their lack of understanding causes me to have anxiety, doubts, and a moment of depression. It was hard for me to comprehend how people can see you succeed, and once you hit a wall, they give up on you. I wanted to express this on social media to see if anyone else experience what I did. But I stop myself because modern social media warp my mind into believing if your life is not perfect or it isn’t good vibes, don’t post it. And I didn’t. But I quickly ask myself, why?

Because life is a series of peaks and valleys, that’s what makes us human. So I knew things needed to change because social media isn’t going anywhere in the future. It will always be some form of social media. So I figure why not create a better version of it, where it’s transparent, balanced, enjoyable, and focused on the real human experience.
That’s when Inpathy was born.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Inpathy is a new era of social media that will revolutionize how we look and use social media. On Inpathy, we inspired transparency, normalize moods and recreate the human experience. Our goal is to create a space where you can express yourself and be yourself. Our mission is to cultivate our platform where highs and lows can be shared and treated equally. We want to show people it’s okay to be human, and you don’t have to be perfect.

In a world today that needs balance, especially online. Inpathy will be the ideal balance experience where you can share fun and low moments. See, Inpathy is not a mental health app. It’s a human app that embodies the human experience.

Inpathy greatest challenge we are facing right now is funding. But first, hear a fun fact, the average app costs 100K to develop. Inpathy was quoted to cost around 700K to create by a top app development agency in NYC. We worked on Inpathy for six years and manage to knock off three-fourths of the price with our funds and resources and a lot, a lot, of sweat equity. What that means Inpathy is 75% complete. And to simplified it down more, if Inpathy was a car, everything is built and ready to go. All it needs right now is the engine so it can start.

So we launch our crowdfunding campaign to raise 250K to hire some well-needed help to finish the quarter of development left for Inpathy on iPhone and have it available for free and Ad-free.

We realize we can’t keep doing this alone. The price of admission to create a social network as a black-owned tech startup is not feasible alone. It will take a village to build this vision. So, if you support Inpathy, you will receive an exclusive invite to join the Inpathy beta when we hit our goal. Inpathy beta won’t be available for public download. You will have to be invited to join Inpathy beta.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hmm, I don’t go out much. I am too busy working, haha. But when I go out, I will probably take my friends to Great Lakes Coffee Shop. It has excellent vibes to chill, work and have good conversation. Next will be downtown, and ride on the electric scooters and go sightseeing in style, lol. Lastly, I really do not know. Lol, after we get done building Inpathy, I promise I will find my life again. It’s somewhere out there. But in the meantime, we would have to rely on yelp to find some fun spots in the city, lol.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I will like to give my faith and belief in my lord and savior, Jesus Christ, a shout-out first without him; I probably would have never been bold enough or to see a vision of a higher version of myself and what I can do in this life.

I will also like to shout out to my Mom; She’s the real MVP for always believing in me, investing in me when conventional wisdom says otherwise. My Mom is a huge reason why Inpathy exists today. I thank GOD for every day!

I will like to shout out to my Sister for being very supportive of me and always giving me wisdom on how to conduct myself in a Christ-like way, so I am never high or too low. She always wants the best for me mentally and spiritually, and I love her for that! Best sister in the world!
