We had the good fortune of connecting with Mia Esterak and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mia, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is truly doing what I love. I always look for ways to improve, and I really love my clients. My clients always help to keep my skills sharp (no pun intended). My family have always been my biggest supporters and motivators.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I treat hair design as art. I always look for new ways of complementing peoples personality through their hairstyle. I am always looking to improve and learning everything I can. I learned a lot about myself along the way, I learned to be strong and that I am strong. I love to be creative and adventurous with hair, and if you need your hair done, you should come see me!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would take a short load trip just outside of the city to Palm Springs. They have amazing mineral spring water spas, and you can stargaze at night. Not far from there are some beautiful art installations. Food-wise Torrance has some of my favorite restaurants.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I would like to shoutout my mother. She is the reason I took a big risk moving to America. While I was still in Japan, My father had a stroke and was unconscious for two months. I was a real difficult time. After he woke up, he needed a lot of care. I wanted to stay and help my mother but she told me to follow my dream and go to America to become a hairstylist. My mother is extremely strong and encouraging. Next, I would like to shoutout my husband. When I moved here, we had a really difficult life. We didn’t have much money and we had a broken car. However, he would always drive me to school in Santa Monica from Simi Valley everyday. He always encouraged me to keep going. Without him I don’t think I would keep going. Last but not least, I want to shoutout all my friends and my co workers who motivated me. Their help and support have allowed me to grow as a hairstylist and a person.
