We are so inspired by the businesses in our community because of how many of them are committed to helping to make the world better than it is today. Check out some great businesses below and how they are helping others.

Christy Kendall | Wedding & Family Photographer

I think we are a very visual society and as such the type of images we put out into the world effect our community. I personally value family and connection above all else, I think it has the power to save people. I visually put into the world the connection and happiness family brings and I like to think that creates a positive impact in the world. On a physical level we are a zero waste business, we use reusable batteries, try to purchase our gear as sustainably as possible and are totally paperless. Read more>>

Leanna Lin | Shop Owner & Creative Director

Locally ~ Having Leanna Lin’s Wonderland located (and living) in the smaller town of Eagle Rock in Northeast LA, my business can really be a part of the NELA community without feeling lost. We can make an impact and build relationships with locals and other small businesses. I’ve also done a lot of community events such as be part of the 2nd Saturdays NELA Gallery Night and started We Heart Eagle Rock Shop Small on Small Business Saturday back in 2011. Another big part is doing fundraising for local non-profits (Home Dog L.A., North Central Shelter, Luxe Paws, Center for the Arts Eagle Rock, and the upcoming Vidiots Foundation)! Globally ~ Via social media and my online shop, I can bring smiles and joy to everyone around the world. People can have access to a fun curated selection of amazing artists, brands, and designers. Virtually, they can still be a part of my Wonderland and bring cuteness to their own homes. Read more>>

Haik Zadoyan | Entrepreneur & Restaurateur

My last two businesses were in the healthcare and hospitality sectors. Before my restaurant Kaffe Rouge, I operated a large medical spa company in Los Angeles. Naturally in these two industries, I was surrounded by nurses, PAs, chefs, bartenders and servers. I co-founded Snibbs footwear to solve a problem that was evident in these industries – the shoes my employees wore were either not meant specifically for their job, or they simply lacked function or aesthetic. Snibbs are waterproof, certified slip-resistant and orthopedic designed shoes that are meant for anyone who is on their feet all day. Wearing them allows workers to remain comfortable, safe and confident so that they can focus on what they do best: helping people everyday. Now, people don’t have to decide between shoes that look good or shoes that are functional – Snibbs are the one stop solution! Read more>>

Brianna York | College Student

I always wanted to start my own business, but I didn’t want to do it unless my business could be used to help others. I decided to make self defense keychains because I made one for myself when I was 17 years old. There were so many times I felt lucky to have such tools on my person. I know there are a lot of women who were not in such position. The statistics of women being assaulted is daunting. For Black and transgender women, those rates increase drastically. We live in a society where violence against women is the norm, It is expected. These keychains do not solve the issue at hand, but it does give women access to the protective equipment they need. It is better to be prepared and protected, than to be vulnerable. If I can help even one person feel safer in this cold world, then I am satisfied. Read more>>
