We had the good fortune of connecting with Susan Johnston and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Susan, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
It’s such a great question. Sometimes, you just need a break from what you have been doing, perhaps you will come back with renewed vigor or realize it is not something you want to continue doing. I think it is good to try new things often, or do what you have been doing from a different perspective.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Media Futurist. It is a title that was given to me by colleagues. In CA it started with Gary Schusett asking me to speak on panels for Sherwood Oaks Experimental College, leading me to all the majors, NAB, NATPE, AFM, TIFF, etc. I would meet amazing people from all over the world and have some of the best conversations, learning, sharing, etc.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I do love taking people to The Magic Castle and then up to Yamishiro for drinks at the bar facing the lights of the city. Then afterward, take them for a walk through the Japanese garden before heading off to Mullholland Drive and looking at the city lights on the other side of the canyon.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Teachers. I think this shoutout should be for all the teachers. I pushed alot of boundaries in school and some teachers took me in and some did not.
