We asked folks about legacy and what they want people to remember about them. We’ve shared some of those responses below.

My nickname in Philadelphia, moreso my neighborhood of Manayunk, is “Mose of Manayunk.” I often wonder when I’ll eventually leave this place, or IF I’ll ever leave at that. Which begs the same question, what will be left of me when I’m no longer physically here? The first thing that comes to mind is that I hope a few of my songs become ear worms for a few people that I’ve met along the way, either at an open mic or at a show. However, a legacy is something so much bigger than having one absolute banger in your arsenal of songs that people hum to themselves sometimes. I hope that my legacy will be that I was a brutally honest, charismatic, personable smartypants. I guess if you want a more sophisticated way of saying it, I hope that people remember me as the musician who came out of the woodwork in the Summer of 2021 to an open mic night, and eventually became a senior sound engineer just because they wanted to learn something new and invigorate the local music scene. I hope I am remembered as the unapologetically queer person that I am, and a person willing to stick their neck out for what they know is right; a person with humility and integrity. And potentially an affinity for silly tattoos and questionable fashion tastes. Read more>>

I’d like my legacy to be that I used art, hard work and love, to help transform the lives of countless young women and children from survivors to dreamers and thrivers. I developed goldsmithing vocational programs and worked with human trafficking and gender violence survivors and at-risk youth in India, Nepal and Thailand. Through learning a high skill, revered vocation and developing economic independence, these remarkable brave and strong, young women were able to express their trauma, gain empowerment, heal and become changemakers in their own communities. Now, while operating my own jewelry business, I work to help survivors closer to home with the survivor-led not-for-profit Redemption House of the Bay Area. The goal is to continue to support survivors on their healing journey, tap into their inherent potential and live meaningful and fulfilling lives. There are so many problems in our world today, I want people to know there is always a way to help using a skill you have and many hands make light work. I truly hope my daughter finds something she is incredible passionate about, and works to solve one of our many problems, whatever it is. Read more>>

I think for me When you make time for others and offer them your love and attention, it can be far more valuable than any amount of money. In the long term, what people will most remember about you is the way you treated them and how you added value to their lives. Read more>>

When I reflect on the legacy I hope to build, I realize that it was only later in my life, after leaving the corporate world, that I truly discovered my sense of purpose. It was during this period of transition that I came to understand the power and significance of knowing my legacy. It became the foundation not only for building the second chapter of my life but also for my business.” Read more>>
