We asked some folks we admire to share one piece of conventional advice they disagree with.

Dayanna Badillo | Singer Songwriter & Worship Leader

The advice that I disagree with is one that I’ve heard all my life and have even lived by it. “Follow your heart” is a famous line that we’ve seen in movies and tv shows, we’ve heard it in many songs and it sounds so poetic but is actually not an smart idea. Why? Because the heart is deeply tied to our emotions and that makes it deceitful. In other words, we shouldn’t live by our emotions but by good principles that shape who we are. Now do I look like Raccoon some days suuurrreee but I’m not a broke raccoon lol! Read more>>

Leslie Jones | Co-Owner of 1010 Wine and Events

But I have seen many people not pursue a dream because they do not feel they have the training they need to do so. I believe that is just fear holding them back. My bachelor’s degree is in political science and my sister/business partner’s degree is in law. We decided to open a wine bar with no education in the hospitality industry. Read more>>
