We had the good fortune of connecting with The Haunts and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi The Haunts, what matters most to you?
We’d have to say that one of the values that matters the most to us is that without the support of the people around you, you’re not going to get very far. From a band perspective, we love to support the bands and artists we play alongside with. Music can feel like such a competition sometimes; it just feels really nice to know there’s a community of bands who are willing to support you and truly believe in your music, all because there truly is a mutual feeling of “You support me, I support you.” From an audience perspective, we’re all here because we all genuinely love seeing and supporting music, there’s never a valid reason for any sense of superiority or elitism between artist and audience. To boil it down to it’s core principle, I guess we’d have to say “Just be kind to everyone you come into contact with as an artist”.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We believe that our different musical backgrounds all mesh well with each other to create a unique sound; Alanna (drums) comes from a jazz background, Max (vocals) a folkier one, and Aaron (guitar) a surf punk background. We’re most proud of all making music we first and foremost love ourselves, and it then being so positively received by the audiences we’ve played for, an aspect that we’re extremely excited to get back to when shows are safe to return to. Professionally, we’ve gotten to where we are today by thorough practicing, and most importantly (to us) the ability to work and communicate well with each other musically. Along the way, we’ve learned a key lesson of being open to trying different things musically; some of our favorite songs we’ve written have come about simply as a result of one of us saying “hey, let’s try this in this song”, completely changing it for the better. Primarily we just want to make music that we enjoy, that also is welcoming and received positively by all.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
From a musical perspective, some of our favorite venues in LA are a must.Places like The Smell, Harvard & Stone, The Hi Hat, The Echo (to name a few) really capture the essence of the LA music scene and are great spots to see what LA has to offer musically. From a dining perspective, we’d definitely have to go with some places like Salsa & Beer in NoHo, Grand Central Market, Silverlake Thai, Tall Boy in Echo Park, and The Black Cat in Silverlake all are musts when ever we had someone visit LA pre-Covid. In terms of outdoor activities we like hiking in Griffith Park, The Baldwin Hills stairs near Culver City, Echo Park Lake and Venice/ Santa Monica

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We definitely would have to shoutout Allyssa Cornier of Cosmic Bloom Booking, she’s an absolute force of the CA scene, doing photography, tour/show booking, and pretty much everything else in between!
