Meet Jeremy Levin: Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeremy Levin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeremy, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
I think the most important habit to have is simply that of positivity. I’ve been a firm believer in the Law of Attraction this past year. It’s the idea that constant positive thoughts bring constant positive events in real life. You can get extremely specific with those thoughts as well. In 2019, I was extremely poor and took out about 4 pages of my notebook to write down things that I wanted out of life. Everything from emotional/health related things to physical material things. While the list hasn’t been 100% completed, I check in about twice a year to just check things off and add more. As of today (may 2021) tons of those “wants” have manifested into my real life. There’s always room to grow, but i did this as a proof of concept. That if I thought about the life I wanted everyday, rather than reflected on what sucked about life, I’d obtain every last wish.
Handling anxiety creatively or constructively was a huge trait that i had to learn growing up. It never used to be that way for me, but it’s all part of the positivity training that I set myself up to do. Of course at some point I’ll get sad, but that’s exactly why i write songs. It’s exactly why I do anything creative. Everything that I create comes from a personal place. It calms me down and allows me to move forward. As soon as I’m over a specific anxiety, I try to immediately wake up the next day back into the person that i strive to be.
The last habit I practice actually is interestingly enough just the opposite. Instead of focusing on the future, I’ll try to spend an equal amount of time focusing on today. For awhile, i was really into focusing on my future but it ended up having a negative effect on me. I started to hate the present day more & more. The key balance for me was a solid mix of manifesting a future that i want, and then backing it up with reasons as to why today was still a good day to be alive. In a materialistic world it’s hard to see, but if you can imagine that being alive is just enough to be happy, you’ll notice everything else is a bonus. Possessions and wealth mean nothing. People and experiences are worth infinitely more.
You start to realize in these practices just how unproductive it is to hate or be negative. Yes, it’s a human emotion that shouldn’t be ignored. But it’s entirely possible to find positives in every situation.
To the people that you hate: You realize you have more in common with than you think. Everyone has their own struggles that get overlooked in the heat of the moment. To the things or ideas that you hate: You realize that you are a fully operational & breathing person. You have every power to constructively make change.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As long as I can remember, I’ve at least been a fan of music in some way. While no one in my family really played anything, I’ve always been surrounded by it as a listener. Something that really plays part in my music and my life is Synesthesia. It’s a strange phenomenon that many people experience where two of their senses are paired. In my case, it’s audio to visual. Every single sound that I hear has a visual associated with it. The deeper the meaning for me, the more intense the visual can be. As long as I can remember, this has been the case.
As far as where I am today, I’ve had my hands in tons of projects over the years. I started playing drums in bands when I was 6, and started producing about 10 years ago. For a while, I made electronic music under many different aliases, but Synova started about 3 years ago when I started chasing the idea of songwriting. Figuring out this specific direction definitely was a very long process. I signed to a label when was 16 making instrumental EDM, and immediately wanted to dissociate with the alias & sound after writing an album for a management team that wanted to invest in me. I spent 2 years making a lot of stuff, but didn’t have an alias to go by and wasn’t particularly thrilled about what I was creating. So I dropped all of it. All of the attention, all of the plays, all of the opportunities. I started from scratch with the creation of Synova when I made a song called “Change:Reaction”. This was the first song that I ever sang on in 2018. That feeling was incredible. Since then I’ve released an EP, lots of remixes, and am working on a new album.
I think what I’m most excited about is the renaissance period that we’re entering with art. I think a lot of people were very stagnant in art until Covid happened. It forced a lot of us to innovate on the spot. Specifically in my case, the Virtual Reality world has played the biggest part. I’ve been performing at VR clubs this past year constantly and it’s been the most amazing experience of my entire career. Specifically Loner Online & Slyfest have been some of my favorite venues to perform at. It’s really unlike any virtual concert experience I’ve ever had. I show up, my friends show up, we all talk to each other in real time, I meet and see other artists, it’s no different than an in person show. The only difference here is that when I play shows, I’m playing for hundreds of people all over the world.
There’s no club trying to screw over artists, there’s no gatekeeping of connections, it’s just all good people having a good time. We’re all friends that just like listening to music and socializing together. It’s really beautiful and has been my favorite aspect of music this past year.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Exploration is my favorite thing ever! I think my number 1 date spot in LA is the Wisdom tree but hiked at night. It’s such a prettier view then.
Other nature spots definitely include Lois Ewen Overlook, Topanga, and if you’re willing to drive a bit, Mt.Baldy. Those places are all so beautiful and special to me.
Now food spots are another story. There are 3 absolutely legendary places in my book. The first kinda has a funny name, but I cannot recommend it enough. It’s this tiny little stand in Venice beach called “Fish Taco $2.75”. Same lady has been working there for years. Also perfectly made, also fresh, always incredible.
2nd would be Dave’s Hot Chicken. Absolutely the best chicken sandwich/fries I’ve ever had. At a close tie though, it’s Fat Sal’s. I think most people know of it, but it’s just one of those places you have to look up the menu for. Nowhere else can you get a sandwich with BBQ pastrami brisket, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, crisp bacon, melted cheddar, mozzarella, fries, mayo, honey bbq all on a garlic hero. Absolutely NUTS.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think the biggest shoutout i can offer is to my friends & family.
Through any amount of stress I’ve experienced, they simply never left my side. They never stopped believing in what I was doing.
I told my them early on that i wouldn’t be attending college, that I wouldn’t take huge money offers for jobs that I hate, that I’d chase life experience and make mistakes time & time again before someone told me how to live life. I know how stubborn that can come off as, but I never once was met with “no”.
The people I’ve surrounded myself are everything to me. So thank you pals, i can’t put into words how much you all mean to me.
