We had the good fortune of connecting with Joana Jordao and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joana, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
The wedding industry is huge, and there are many things that brides need to take into consideration. From the dress they are going to wear to the food is going to be served, brides usually get overwhelmed with all the decisions they have to make, and with so much to think about, usually, the invitation is left on the side. Unfortunately, not all the couples give the necessary attention to the item that gives the first impression about the big day to their guests. Wedding invitations not only invite people but also set the tone of the wedding and build expectations for the big day to come. What a lot of people don’t know is how personal and unique a wedding invitation suite can be. When working with couples, I like to know everything about their relationship. How did they met, the proposal, what they like to do together, etc. Everything is taken into consideration when designing an invitation. The options are endless, and my goal is to design a bespoke invitation that not only the couple will cherish forever but also their guests.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The thing that most sets me apart from others is the attention and love I put into my work. It sounds a little bit cliche, but companies out there are not listening to their customers. For me, my work is not complete if the client is not 100% satisfied. I want all my customers to be happy with the final result, so I will always work close to them, listening to everything they have to say, offering unlimited rounds of revision, and countless hours of work. I want them to cherish the end result with me. I learned along the way that if you work for the money, you are not doing your best. When the goal is profit, you will not stand out from the crowd, and believe it, or not your customers will notice that. Working with something you love makes you happy, builds relationships along the way, and encourages you to do your best every day. The money will come as a consequence.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since I grew up in Brazil, I have some friends and family that come here to visit once and a while. One thing that I always do with them is one day driving by the most beautiful beaches in Orange County. We usually start at Huntington Beach with a nice breakfast at Bruxie and a walk by the pier. We like to see how young and alive it is. A lot of people riding their bikes, playing guitars, or walking their dogs on this always beautiful sunny day. From there, we go to Newport Beach. A completely different vibe from HB, but fascinating. Newport beach is a more affluent neborhood, so we drive by magazine houses in front of this breathtaking ocean view. When time allows, we like to cross Balboa Island with the ferry and eat delicious fish at the local The Crab Cooker. To close the day, we drive south by the PCH until we arrive at Laguna Beach, which for me is the most beautiful beach in OC. Over there, you can see nature meeting the ocean in beautiful harmony. We also like to visit some local art shops and watch the sunset at the top of the world. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family is always supporting me in everything, but I also want to shoot out Nancy and Shannon from Monster Coffee Roasters for supporting and believing in me, as well as Justina Beacom, my friend, for trusting in me to design the company very first wedding invitation to her big day.
