We had the good fortune of connecting with Lucas Fackler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lucas, what role has risk played in your life or career?
To me risk taking just means getting out of your comfort zone. I’m not afraid to go all-in on something, like in the past couple of years, I’ve focused my efforts on making all of my living on the music I create with my partner Hannah. We’ve both worn so many different hats over the years, from session engineering to video production, the choice to focus all of our energy on our own music would definitely be considered a risky move.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As is usually the case, I’m always juggling a few projects or identities at any given time. On the creative service end, there’s Sound Content, which has for the past 3 or 4 years been mostly a video production company focused on content for pro audio brands. Most recently Hannah and I have started a new music project called Idylmind. Our goal with this project is to create unique sounding pop tracks for use in sync placement opportunities. This focus has led to a morphing of Sound Content, changing its gears from video production, shifting into a sort of micro boutique music library. SoundContent.audio is the new home for all things music for the various projects by Hannah and myself.
Something I’ve learned from all of this is that you can easily spend too much of your time chasing something that’s not exactly what you want. I have for many years kept neighboring paths in my career, using engineering and video production to support making my own music. I’ve reached a point where my efforts can be more focused and I can give all of my energy to composing and producing my own material full-time. It’s scary but liberating, it feels good to give myself enough energy to succeed.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
LA has so many great areas. I feel like it’s so easy to find new favorite places all of the time. It also really depends on where you live now and how long you’ve been in this city. But I definitely have my local favorites in my corner of the valley.
First lets talk about breakfast and lunch, for that it has to be Aeirloom Bakery in Toluca Lake on Riverside, just off of Cahuenga. This place has friendly staff, indoor and outdoor seating and really tasty options on the menu. We always take out-of-towners there for breakfast.
Next, it’s LA so you’re gonna need a steady flow of coffee. From single origin cups of black coffee to the tastiest cappuccino, Coffee Commissary in Burbank has got your back. They’ve got food options too! A great spot for lunch, some java and a pastry or two, try their seasonal vegan (banana) loaf.
If we’re talking all things food and drink, then I gotta shoutout Handy Market on Magnolia. They’ve got a killer little deli for some great sandwiches and just the right amount of stuff in there to grab your groceries for the week. They’ve also got a killer selection of whole bean coffees and a vast selection of Craft Beers.
Finally, for brews and food in the evening, I’m split between Tonys Darts Away with their rotation selection of California draft beer and a handful of tasty menu options, many of them Vegan friendly. There’s also Brews Brothers in NoHo. This place has a huge footprint, plenty of space to get a group of friends together to play some pool or foosball. They’ve always got a great selection of brews, ever rotating with enough food options to keep you and your crew happy.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely it’s my partner Hannah. We’ve spent so much time together not only as a couple but as a duo of determined creatives, carving out our path in LA for the past decade. It has never been easy but has been helpful to have someone along for the ride. Best of all, we’ve been able to not only chase this thing together but create together in pursuit of a fruitful music career.
