We had the good fortune of connecting with Julia Xu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In 2020, I decided to drop out of corporate life and start my own business in start-up consulting. In this process, I realized that it was incredibly hard to set up my home office. I couldn’t find any office or tech products that were stylish, functional and affordable. So, I decided to create a one-stop shop for other go-getters like myself to design their workstation. It’s time we stop compromising our life and find things best suited for our life and needs. It took me a little bit of time to get here though because I first worked with other clients out build their business strategies and financial models. Not getting the flexibility and creative control I needed, I finally stopped full-time consulting to pursue Multitasky. What a ride it has been!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Multitasky is a one-stop-shop to create a functional and inspiring workspace designed for female go-getters. From our modern tech collection to boost your productivity, our multi-functional office collection to elevate your hustle, to our comfort home collection to bring joy and convenience to your life, we exist to empower you to live extraordinarily.

What makes us different is that our products are thoughtfully curated by our team. We choose products with the working woman in mind. In reality, most office products are created for the male-dominated corporate world. With this, they’re either gray and bland, or they’re beautifully designed but not easily moved because they weigh too much and are not versatile.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a huge fan of the beach town by the oceans! Whether it’s Venice or Santa Monica, I’d encourage any friend to spend time lounging around the beach, taking in the sunset and going into the shops around town.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be here without the constant support of my mentors and my partner. My mentors have shown me nothing but support and encouraged me to pursue my dreams and manifest my vision strategically. Without their advice and sounding ear, I wouldn’t know what to do with myself sometimes. My partner, Ben, has been by my side through this whole journey too. He supported me during my corporate career, supported me quitting corporate life to pursue start-up consulting and pushed me to create Multitasky. We’ve moved across the country during the pandemic and built this business from the ground-up, changed things while going and are now strategizing for the next big thing. I feel so grateful!
