We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy & Scott Malin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy & Scott, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Scott and I have always been entrepreneurs and have blazed our own trails. While owning a business is a wild, crazy and beautiful ride filled with ups and downs, we’re really happy being our own bosses. Plus, as creatives, we’re able to pick our projects and the people we want to work with, which is priceless. Time is our most precious commodity and being entrepreneurs affords us the opportunity to decide how we want to spend ours. We’ve been business partners for over a decade. As a husband and wife team, it has been beautiful to get to build something together that we’re really passionate about.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We’re so excited about the movement we’re building with our Trueheart social impact search engine. We wanted to help democratize philanthropy and make it more inclusive, so we created a social good platform that enables people to use the power of tech for good. Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Los Angeles is an amazing city! There is so much diversity and culture here which you can experience through food, fashion, music, film and special events. We love supporting local businesses and so we have to give a shout-out to our favorite plant-based restaurants which everyone should check out…Brothers Meatballs, Donut Friend, Monty’s Good Burger, Shojin and Fresh on Sunset always serve up yummy meals. Not only is this food good for you, but it is also good for the planet, so you can feel great about making an impact.

When it is safe and concerts return, we can’t wait to see shows at The Greek again. There is something absolutely incredible about enjoying your favorite music under the stars as thousands of Angelenos sing along. We love feeling the collective energy!  It is such a special experience. L.A. also has a great comedy scene. We love laughing until our cheeks hurt at The Improv, The Comedy Store and  The Laugh Factory.

If you want to enjoy some time in nature, Runyon Canyon is a great place to hike and El Matador beach in Malibu is a gorgeous spot to spend an afternoon. You can roll from the beach to The Malibu Cafe at Calamigos Ranch where you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch and cool activities like paddle boats and life size backyard games like chess and connect four. This is a great spot for kids of all ages.

And if you’re willing to venture just a little past Los Angeles, head on over to Ojai for a truly magical experience. The Ojai Valley Inn is breathtaking. You can enjoy swimming, tennis, a day at the spa, dinner and making S’mores by the fire pits. It’s an epic place to visit with your family or for a romantic sojourn.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

We stand on the shoulders of all of the entrepreneurs and activists who have come before us. The mavericks, rebels, visionaries, hustlers, inventors and philanthropists who paved the way and took big risks to pursue their dreams. We’re inspired by the tales of Mark Cuban, Oprah, Kendra Scott, Sara Blakely, Richard Branson, Daymond John and countless other self-made business people. We’re big fans of the show “Shark Tank” because it inspires millions of people to bet big on themselves. We all have the power to create the life of our dreams with our talent, hard work and determination. You have to truly believe in yourself and never give up!

We’re in awe of other purpose-driven brands that are changing the world. This Saves Lives  and HALF UNITED are two incredible brands that feed millions of people all over the world and are working to end global hunger. We have so much respect and admiration for young people like Greta Thunberg, Malala Yousafzai, Emma González and Cameron Kasky who fight tirelessly to protect the planet, promote gender equality and end gun violence. They are the future leaders of this world. They speak truth to power, are fearless and strong in their convictions.
