Meet Thomas Swanson | Music Producer, Mix Engineer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Thomas Swanson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Thomas, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose this career because it was something I always just sort of did. Since a young age as a musician, I was always interested in putting things together, and paying attention to detail. Over the years artists demanded my services more and more, and I just felt like the type of person that needed to be producing music since the demand was there.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always been detail oriented. While I work in a creative field, the small details to me matter just as much as the creative aspect. My beat making is always changing, it really just depends on how i’m feeling- I just know I want it to make me feel a certain way when I hear it.

It’s important to me that i’m versatile. I never want to be boxed into one style. Plus- with my diverse client base of artists, I need to be able to represent tons of different styles, and genres.

I’ve mixed over 1,000 songs in my life, and I try to inject flavor, and character into all of them! Flavor you can hear.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In Gainesville, FL I would take them to Mark’s Prime Steakhouse. I’m a huge fan of fine dining!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom was always supportive of me, she never doubted me.

As far as industry names go, Justin Childs was the first major industry name to see my talent and positively reinforce it. Justin is a grammy nominated engineer who’s worked with the A list, and it was shocking to me at the time when he reached out that he even reached out in the first place. I would make frequent trips to Atlanta with him and learn from him, he always believed in me.

Social media star Supreme Patty and his manager Millz we’re also among the first to discover my talent, and they’ve stuck with me as their main producer/ engineer ever since we met.
