Meet Rashian Burns | Information Technology Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rashian Burns and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rashian, what do you attribute your success to?
I credit my success to the support of my family and growing up in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn. If you are someone who currently lives in New York City or has at some point in your life, you definitely know that Brownsville is one of the toughest places to live in the country. Violence, poverty, and drug addiction are a part of your day to day life growing up in Brownsville. Living and surviving these experiences teach you to make quick decisions and pay attention to detail. Having a strong family to help guide you through making smart decisions can be the difference between making it home from school or finding yourself dead or in jail. Taking what I’ve learned over those years plays a huge role in my current work ethic and business practices. When clients come to me for solutions, having the ability to process information quickly and provide proper feedback is what businesses value in today’s turbulent environment.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Wan Scape is a company that leverages technology to provide direction and strategy for your businesses. With over 20 years experience, spanning across multiple sectors in business, we create resilient workflow models that are specific to fit your organizational needs. I didn’t seek out technology as my profession, it found me! This makes my company unique and special . When I completed my associates degree in Electrical Engineering, I was asked by a friend, “why don’t you have a computer at home?”. I took his advice and purchased my first computer, which to my surprise, was very slow and didn’t function as others I’ve seen. My curiosity and persistence lead me to read books and “poke” at every inch of that computer. I needed to understand why and what could be done to make that computer perform the way I thought it should. That same persistence and curiosity is how many of my clients look at their organization when it comes to getting the most out of their technological investment. Throughout my journey, I’ve been very blessed to work with so many diverse minds and cultures from all over the world. Those experiences shaped the way I approach business. Learning to think outside of my “norms” was the only way to survive in an extremely competitive and diverse market. My goal is to continue that model as a company.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite place to hang out is the gun range. I am a 2A advocate and enjoy hanging out with the guys, talking “jive”, and grabbing drinks after. I call these hangouts, shoots-n-shoots lol. I also enjoy good Mexican and Italian foods. When family comes to visit, I usually schedule a range outing to start, followed by dinner and drinks. The night cap ends at my place with some music and laughs.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a huge shoutout to my older cousin Jamel Griggs. Jamel is not just my cousin, but more like my big brother. We have been very close since I turned 16 years old. He decided to go the city job route while I was thrown into corporate America right out of high school. He would fight the older kids that would rough me up back in the day. One of the biggest impacts he had in my life is how he would always push me to do more and be more. Whenever we hang out together, I love to remind him about how he used to tease me about my first minimum wage job. His teasing really put a fire in my drive to be successful. We would kick it every other Friday ( normally on a pay week) just chopping it up about life, and he’d ask to see my paystub for the week. He’d place his paycheck next to my own, laugh and say, “When are you going to start making some real money?”. “You need to take your behind to school and do something with your life”. I remember looking at him, shaking my head as he laughed, but knew he wasn’t chastising me rather telling me I can do so much better. He saw something in me that I didn’t even see in myself, at the time. Those conversations resonated throughout my life and I had no idea they would lead me to where I am today.
