Meet David Puskas | Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with David Puskas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is essential. It keeps us sharp, keeps life exciting and full of wonder. The highest rewards of life can only be reaped after taking the highest risks. For me it’s always important to introduce, or look for the element of risk because as humans, our brains are masters of efficiency. Even the most complex of tasks become facile after enough repetition. Once you’ve repeated something enough times it becomes habit, have enough of these in muscle memory and you are running half of your day on autopilot. I try to counteract that any way I can. It doesn’t matter if we take small risks like taking a different, unknown route to work, or big ones, like jumping out of an airplane with a parachute strapped to our backs. Having the element of risk in our lives is not only good but I daresay is one of the fundamental drives that leads to a happier, fuller, more exciting life. In work, especially if you work in a more creative field, taking risks should be like taking a ginger shot. You don’t like it but you know it’s good for you. A heart surgeon or a pilot should probably try to get to the autopilot mode with all the repetition of these incredibly difficult tasks, They have enough risk already inherently in their profession. I enjoy acting so much, exactly because the different and new ways you can tackle a scene, a role. Same with composing music and photography. I enjoy them for their element of surprise and difficulty they can bring. There too I often stop myself from doing something that has been done a thousand times and push myself to do different, to do better. That’s the thing with creativity, the more you need for your work the more on the edge you should feel, otherwise you won’t be as original, you won’t go for that choice right outside your comfort zone, that you know would be the strongest one. Go for it. Take the risk.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Im an actor by degree but that’s not all I do. I’m a music composer and photographer and generally a problem solver. I like to solve my own problems very much and I prefer to leave other people with less problems than I found them with. But what sets me apart, at least in my mind, is my ability to be an asset to anyone who works in the show business by being well rounded in many areas I rarely see other people be so. Also it is quite useful, especially this day and age, to be able to write, direct, act, edit and compose a film. I could wait for someone to take a chance on a kid from Hungary and give me that shot I would need, but much rather I try to give myself chances to fire on all my cylinders and slowly but surely make my way towards my goal. Just now I’m coming off a project that was incredible but also the hardest composer job I’ve had yet. It’s a play called “Network” adapted from the multi Academy Award winning film by the same name. Brian Cranston lead the first two premiers of the stage adaptation in London and New York. This production will be the third in the world of the play and it was an honour to work with such a talented team of individuals, all at the top of their game. I will release the original soundtrack on Spotify, Apple Music and all other platforms in a few weeks. Again in the theme of risk, I feel very lucky to have had the environment, where I could conjure up a dream big enough, that it always provides risk of failing, and that ever so subtle pressure on my shoulders I need to get up and go after it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
LA is massive and so the best part about it is knowing how you will never know all the best spots and everything there is to them, but a few that stand out to me are: The Malibu Lagoon State Beach, Signal Hill, Universal City and the City Walk of course, I love to hike in Topanga Canyon, and I’d definitely advise anyone who comes to LA and knows they’re way around a horse, go and enjoy a ride at LA Horse Rentals at Riverside Dr.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As always I must start with my parents. They were the ones, who stood by me in every situation, they encouraged me and supported me, whatever it took they were there. Then there is my big brother Sam. His always right there too, trailblazing and being the best brother one could wish for. I never had a lot of friends but the ones I have are best kind. Never too did I love too many, but the one I love, is my best girl, and all I dreamed for. I consider myself a lucky man.
