We love ourselves a good quote and so we asked our community to share their favorite quotes and affirmations with us and we’ve highlighted some below.

My favorite quote is a quote/affirmation in Spanish. “lo que será, será.” It translates to “whatever will be, will be.” Or “ it is what it is.” We all have a purpose on this earth and in this lifetime. I truly believe that what is meant for you will manifest. You can never mess up anything that is truly meant for you. The quote reminds of that everyday. Whatever is meant to happen, will happen. There is a Korean saying, “Dream big, for a shattered piece shall be hefty enough.” For me, despite having faced many challenges, having a big dream has been a key driver. I believe that my dreams will become reality in one form or another. Regardless of the results, I am always willing to give it a shot. It is just like the sports players who do image training to overcome their limitations and create self-fulfilling prophecies eventually. Read more>>

I feel most at home by bodies of water. My high school was less than a mile from the beach and on my toughest days, I’d walk down and plant my feet in the sand and breathe. There’s a Toni Morrison quote that I cling to: “All water has a perfect memory and is forever trying to get back to where it was”. This captures the essence of water’s power – an eternal cycle that spans eons. I like to imagine each water droplet has been cycled through for multiple generations and it serves as a humbling reminder of the scale of the lifetime I’ve been gifted to experience. I’ve lived by the Potomac and experienced rebirth in the cradle of the Mississippi; 2 years ago, the Pacific called me back home. This quote reminds me that, like water, I can always return home. project, or you may not even start it, if you think it won’t be perfect. I have been a perfectionist all my life. My parents engrained it in me at an early age: “Clean your room. Get straight A’s.” At the age of 50 I was complaining to my life coach that I must not be spending my time wisely because I keep having projects that aren’t getting done. After a few sessions we uncovered that my problem isn’t time management, it’s “perfectionism.” Turns out I wasn’t getting things done, nor was I delegating tasks because I wanted them to be perfect. My favorite quote is from Nelson Mandela. He said “there is no passion to be found playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.” Those of us who gravitate towards the entertainment industry tend to be dreamers. The competition is brutal, even on the business side, but at least personally speaking, there’s nothing else I’d rather do for a living. Read more>>

This is one of my favorite Alan Watts quotes: “If you awaken from this illusion and you understand that black implies white, self implies other, life implies death—you can feel yourself not as a stranger in the world, not as something here on probation, not as something that has arrived here by fluke, but you can begin to feel your own existence as absolutely fundamental. What you are basically—deep, deep down, far, far in—is simply the fabric and structure of existence itself.” Read more>>

My favorite quote is; “To be on time is to be late and to be early is to be on time” to me it means exactly what it says… to show up earlier than you were supposed to. I like that it’s a straight to the point quote. Read more>>

Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. -Rainer Maria Rilke Read more>>

“Don’t be afraid of being great.” It’s a saying my father told me around the time I started college. It was his way of trying to push me to doing things greater than I knew I could. I keep the quote as my lock screen on my iPad as a constant reminder to always push myself out of my comfort zone and try something new. My father always asks me what if you took 15 minutes out of your day to just think and see what you come up with to be a better person or musician. The people I look at as inspiration all did things that were different and seemed fearless. Essentially the quote tells me don’t be afraid of doing the work that it takes to be successful. That’s why I like the quote “don’t be afraid of being great.” Read more>>

Albert Camus said, “Always go too far because that’s where you’ll find the truth.” This philosophy has informed all of my academic and creative work. People who are brave enough to push the boundaries are not always understood or appreciated, but they are the ones who will ultimately make a real difference. Read more>>
