We had the good fortune of connecting with Bruce and Christina Baldwin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bruce and Christina, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
Bruce grew up in Philadelphia, and Christina grew up in Phoenix. It’s really random chance that we found each other and came together. We both had tough childhoods that forced us to be independent, but we are opposite from each other in many ways. Christina’s independence led her to be outspoken and a natural performer. Caring for her grandmother during her teenage years opened up her nurturing spirit. Helping others comes naturally to her. Bruce’s independence led him to be introspective and creative, writing songs and learning play any instrument he could get his hands on. Today we complement each other, and we’ve learned how to bring the best out of each other.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Ascent is a two-piece rock band based in Orange County, California. We are a husband and wife team. We sound like a full band when we play live, thanks to the power of live looping. This method allows Bruce play guitar and drums on each song, as well as bass on a foot pedal keyboard. Christina has classic bluesy hard rock voice that commands attention. We’re proud of our ability to perform our complex songs live without any prerecorded parts and still sound like we belong in an arena. We’re proudest of our ability to write and record songs, and continuously improve. We want the world to know we put a ton of care and craftmanship into everything we do, including our songs, our videos, and our live performances. Our songs express some of our deepest thoughts, emotions and ideas.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It’s hard to imagine with the whole world on lockdown! Right now it would fun to hang out with friends in Laguna Beach. We can’t wait until the venues open up on Sunset, so we can take in all the music and fun.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We’d like to give a big shoutout to Alexx Calise, the vocalist and guitarist from Batfarm. Not only is she a multitalented performer, she took our recent photos, and shot video for our “Untethered” video.
