We had the good fortune of connecting with Amadeus Medina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amadeus, why did you pursue a creative career?
Creativity has always flowed through me, whether it was drawing, styling, cooking new dishes, putting on runway shows with my little brother, going windowing shopping with the homies and styling them or simply enjoying the art of dance. i’ve always been in tune with the feminine energy; the creator. When I seen the opportunity to bring my brainchild to life I took the leap of faith and never looked back. It has granted me so many opportunities that I only dreamt of. What started out as a curated shop has turned into a multidisciplinary production company with fashion focused curation’s. We’ve already had our first runway show this year, looking to host many more.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Yay Area Thrifts – Decolonizing the future with curated kunt kouture

I strongly feel what sets Yay Area Thrifts & Kunt Kouture Studios apart from my peers is intentionally. I wanted to created something long lasting, something incomprehensibly bigger than me, culturally shifting the narrative of what it means to grow up as a queer brown person in San Francisco. A city bursting with so many flavors and sounds, it’s hard to be the loudest, luckily my loudness walks into the room before I do. We at yay area thrifts/ kunt kouture studios are a multidisciplinary production company with fashion focused curations, what does that entail?

We source the clothes, the MUA, the shooting locations, we have both a in-house fashion stylist designer and photographer so we’re basically a one stop shop to bring your desires into fruition.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my friends visit me first thing first we’re gonna eat real good! If we want Latin American food we’re going to El Farolito on 24th & Mission or La Santaneca for some bomb Salvi food. Asian? Big Lantern, Jade’s Cafe or literally any dim sum spots on the avenue’s. Italian? Bravos pizza or the stinky rose!

If we want to dance or have some drinks we’re going to El Rio, Knockout, Cavana, Pura or even CryBaby in Oakland.

If my friends just wants a chill day of course we’ll start our day out going to purple star, mr liquor, then hit up dolores park probably thrifting around the mission at eye valencia thrift or the salvation army down the street.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
@HotSpotCreatives, they’ve given me my first styling opportunity for their Mega Flea Market campaign ( which i’ve also helped planned and later on brought on board to be an event manager for their TGIF series ). After working with them they’ve asked me back for 3 separate occasions; founders portraits, winter campaign shoot & magazine merch campaign!!
