We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Cohen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
This is a funny question… should I keep going or give up? I started the podcast, Gross Anatomy Podcast about 6 years ago, before the pandemic, and before everyone seemed to be doing podcasts.
Every now and then like most people, I have feelings of doubt… I ask myself, is anyone really listening, who am I doing this for, What am I accomplishing… etc?
And luckily every so often I have an experience like I did just the other day where at the hospital, a young woman ran up to me asking if I was Doctor Cohen. I said yes, and then she proceeded to tell me that she and her friends listen to the show and thank you and she appreciates what I say… Obviously it makes me feel great and reassures me to keep going on. The other thing that happened a few years ago was a TV producer reached out to me. They were looking for the “Gross Anatomy- Guy”. That lead to me being part of a TV show, which was a really fun learning experience. The show is called “Take My Tumor” and it is on TLC…

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As a private practice surgeon in a very competitive environment, I realized about 15 years ago that forming a true partnership with other like minded surgeons each with differing skill sets would be incredibly beneficial. I was very lucky to have formed relationships which are often the key to building anything that involves people that involves teams.
I was lucky too.
But I also realized that in order to make a successful team it’s important to give up certain things. One can’t be selfish, It’s important to share in the glory in the decision making and in the finances.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
unfortunately I am a bit of a homebody. I’m not really a going out kind of guy
but one very important thing is Friday night Shabbat dinner at our house.
I cook with my kids and often their friends, My wife and I invite our friends too.
It’s often a mix of people of all walks of life and all religions enjoying our family traditions with a yummy eclectic meal that brings in many plant based recipes.

I have become a Hot 8 yoga fan… so taking a Hot 8 class with them would be fun.

Abbot Kinney in Venice is always a great street to walk and people watch.

I do love going to Crossroads for great plant based food. Either in Calabasas or on Melrose.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Obviously I need to thank my wife and kids as well as my parents. And I need to thank my podcast co-hosts along the way and my social media guy.
