We had the good fortune of connecting with Hope Easton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hope, what makes you happy? Why?
I think I’m happiest when I am being creative. I love recording songs, because you get to hear other sounds that intertwine themselves into the sounds/words you have made. It fulfills the sound creating another entity which becomes like an art piece. Even creating a landscape with plants and planting a garden, the growth of vegetables fruits and flowers is also very fulfilling to me and does relate to music as it is a tangible physical expression of life and energy. .

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well, I believe if you are courageous enough to make your own music/art, you will always come up with some kind of challenge. Its Murphy’s Law. I think the most important thing is to believe in what you are making and to really be happy with it yourself, not expect others to like it or give you their approval. Because if you hope for that, you are setting yourself up for disappointment , as art and music are subjective in taste. The fact that I do have people who like what I do, is incredible! I don’t think I’m a brand. I got to where I am now by following my internal intuition. And where that is, I’m not quite sure…but able to express myself and create music is a good start.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well definitely the best place to visit is my home. Everything is there, garden, amazing food and drink and a lot of art and music. Many instruments as well. And I have an electric group of people around so if I have a gathering it is always a good mix of people. Of course hosting is my specialty. I enjoy Culver City area, and I can walk there. I enjoy playing at Genghis and not sure during this period where you can play…speak easies might be coming back, home concerts. I’ll be the first host. Fooderies: Breweries: so many …

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Well I definitely have some musicians in my life to thank for helping me complete this 5th CD /Album of mine, HOPE2020. I wrote 3 songs with Leo Chelyapov, who is a remarkable musician. He plays Clarinet, Sax, Bass Clarinet, Duduk, and of course Keys. And my producer, who seems to find harmonies from the fine frequencies surrounding his intuitive musical process, Dan Mackenzie. And of course to those around me who have supported me and my music. Those who know who they are.
