We had the good fortune of connecting with Angie Brooks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angie, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
One of the most challenging decisions I’ve had to make is stepping into my authenticity. I have a corporate background and I felt like there were areas that I really wanted to shine in, but couldn’t because of the structure I was in. Subconsciously I called in the Universe to pull the rug from underneath me when I was laid off, and I knew that it was time for me to show up, not for a company, but for myself. The challenges and joys that came as a result allowed me to step fully into my power.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a modern day medicine woman who focuses on holistic health through traditional healing and native medicine. My journey began with trauma (like most of us) which led me to the Peruvian Amazon Jungle where I connected with plant medicines such as ayahuasca and San Pedro to assist in healing ancestral and lifetimes of trauma. Before I knew about energy and how highly sensitive (empathic) I was to other people’s energy, I was depressed and angry. The plant medicine assisted me in removing blockages, which later opened up opportunities for me to assist others on their journey. On one visit to the jungle, I connected with a bright green frog whose poison contains peptides that resonate with the human body and assist in healing many dis-eases such as cancer, chronic pain, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and traumas. I didn’t know it at the time, but this frog chose me to share her medicine, known as Kambo. Having a corporate background with no knowledge of running a business was a huge adjustment. I had to learn how to have the same discipline for myself that I had working for a company. This was not easy, and I found that a bit of planning mixed with spontaneity created the perfect space for me to do my work through my heart space and not so much in my mind like I was used to in a corporate environment.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to visit me for a week, we would take a couple of days in the Sequoia National Park area and relax in the hot springs. We’d then drive down to Topanga Canyon and have a delicious meal at the Inn of the Seventh Ray. We would enjoy a hike through the Los Liones Trail in the Santa Monica Mountains to catch the sunset. I would introduce her to some of my favorite plant-based intergral restaurants such as Sage followed by a swan boat ride at Echo Park. We’d enjoy the sand dunes near Malibu and a bike ride on Venice Beach. The rest we will just flow with because there’s so much to do in the City of Angels!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my shoutout to my inner child and every experience and person that played a role in allowing her to peel back the layers of fear so she can live again. I thank myself, in true Snoop Dogg award accepting style, for listening to the call of my inner child and for being courageous enough to do the inner work necessary to reach this moment.
