We asked experts from a broad range of industries to open up to us about things they know about their industry but that we probably don’t and we’ve shared some of those responses below.

There are many misconceptions about Botox and filler, and I completely understand why—there’s a lot of bad work out there that reinforces people’s preconceived notions. Many don’t realize the difference between the two, and that confusion can lead to unnecessary fear of cosmetic treatments. The truth is, when Botox and filler are used correctly, they can beautifully enhance someone’s natural beauty. But it’s not about chasing a “perfect” look; it’s about balance and subtlety. At The Skntellect Studio, we place a strong emphasis on patient education because we believe knowledge demystifies these procedures, making them feel less intimidating. By thoroughly educating our clients, we help them feel confident, informed, and in control of their choices. You need someone who is not only highly skilled but also assertive enough to turn you away if a procedure isn’t right for you. Read more>>

The biggest misconception about the industries I work in is how cutthroat and caddy it is. On the surface, it portends to be a group of happy caring gnomes collecting and mending artifacts. And it can be the case for maybe the top 10% of the industry. But under that strata lies quite a lot of people who took jobs where their political skills were greater than their tactile skills. Suppose you look at studios, institutes, associations, and museums, many times you will find that self-preservation and asking others how to do their job is more important than finding ways to work with people whose experience is greater than yours. Being in the food industry, most dishes that are highlighted are meat/dairy based. Which is fine, unless you are vegan. Vegan and plant based dishes are mostly considered “healthy alternatives” but that doesn’t always peak a person’s interest or appetite. I think society has brainwashed the public to believe that vegan food isn’t seasoned, delicious or available to try, I want to change the narrative. Read more>>

Penny Harris | Acupuncturist

People often think of acupuncture as a pain treatment, but it’s actually much more than that. The most common issue I treat in my clinic is fertility and hormone balance. There is a lot of research about acupuncture’s efficacy, and I’ve seen countless times what a life-changing addition it can be for someone trying to conceive. Read more>>

Many people are most likely unaware of how much the spray tanning industry has shifted towards clean, sustainable beauty. Nancy Sarkissian | Event Decorator

What many people outside of this industry don’t realize is just how much time and effort it takes to create a stunning event decor. From the hours spent preparing for the event—designing, sourcing materials, and organizing logistics—to the meticulous setup and execution on the day of, every detail requires careful attention. After the event, we invest additional time disassembling, picking up rentals, and ensuring everything is transported back safely. But it doesn’t stop there; the process of reorganizing and restocking our storage space is equally time-intensive. Most importantly, this work often means dedicating valuable time to your event that we could otherwise spend with our own families and children—a sacrifice we gladly make to ensure your special moments are unforgettable. Bailey Binder | Hair stylist & extension specialist

Many people view a hairdresser as someone who simply styles hair. While I do have the privilege of working creatively with hair every day—a part of my job that I absolutely love—my role extends far beyond that. Being a hairdresser means being a confidant, a listener, and sometimes even a guide. Read more>>

Wendy Salazar | CEO, Founder & Lead Balloon Stylist of Stars Above Balloons Inc.

One thing outsiders are probably not aware of is the level of technical skill, safety considerations, and legal knowledge involved in creating professional balloon decor.
It’s not just about inflating balloons and putting them together—there’s precise planning, knowledge of materials, and structural techniques to ensure installations are safe, and making sure the balloons are impactful, and long-lasting.
Also, understanding local regulations, like the “California Balloon Law” is essential. For example, the law requires metallic balloons to be properly weighted and includes rules to prevent power outages caused by loose balloons. Staying compliant not only is important for safety but also reflects professionalism and responsibility in our part. Read more>>

Sadie C | Actress, singer, comedian

Being an actor sounds glamorous, but I think it’s actually one of the most difficult and rockiest roads one can take.
First, it is required for an actor to be excellent at the basics- acting, which is only the beginning. Before you get to the top 5% of all actors, nobody really pays you anything so you are doing much of the work unpaid, on top of that you also need to put money into continuous training, and survive Los Angeles doing 3 other jobs. Once you have the acting skills, you are still competing with thousands who also have the skills. That is where it takes persistence for who knows how long, to stay afloat doing smaller projects and having the faith that you’ll have the luck to get picked for the bigger projects one day. Or never, as it’s not guaranteed. Read more>>

Colleen Lippert | Celebrity Publicist & Owner of Anchor Publicity

The first thing that comes to mind is just how much authenticity and trust define our work in PR. There’s a common misconception that PR is about manipulating the truth to fit a specific agenda, but in reality, it’s quite the opposite. Public relations is about amplifying a brand’s message in transparent, engaging, and meaningful ways—not creating a story that isn’t there. Read more>>
