We had the good fortune of connecting with Rodrigo Buscato and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rodrigo, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
When I was younger, I felt guilty for wanting to pursue art. Back then, I saw it as a selfish endeavor, compared to careers like medicine or teaching, which offered clear societal benefits. Everything changed; however, once I first witnessed art’s potential to significantly impact culture and help shape the world around us.

Much of who I am comes from my upbringing and my unique blend of Latin American and Egyptian heritage. But I’d argue that the characters I invited into my living room every night impacted me just as much. Film and TV have the astounding potential to pass along the values of our society – or the one we wish to build. In this, I found my way of contributing to the world.

I’ve always intended to study in the United States, not for the allure of Hollywood, but for the global reach it provides. I believe that through storytelling, I can communicate with a wide audience and have a lasting, positive impact on the world.

What should our readers know about your business?
As a writer/producer, I quickly realized that the most reliable way to succeed in this industry is to create your own opportunities. Much of the film and TV world is guarded by gatekeepers, and you first need to get permission from them to kickstart your career. What I learned is that having an entrepreneurial spirit can help you excel in this business. That’s why I created my production company CASTELO DE VENTO PRODUÇÕES, alongside my dear friends and creative partners, Afonso Cavalcante and Boni Zanatta. Together, in a short period of time, we were able to make strides in our industry by writing, developing, and producing TV, feature, and documentary projects that are culturally relevant and carry our Brazilian DNA.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Griffith Observatory is a must for everyone who enjoys a great view of the Los Angeles skyline. It’s even better if you get there during the golden hour to watch the sunset. Another one of my favorite LA activities is to rent a bike and pedal through the beautiful Santa Monica beach, passing through the iconic pier. Definitely try to grab tickets for a sitcom or talk show taping, it’s always incredibly interesting to get a glimpse of how your favorite shows get made.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out my mentors in the entertainment industry, Gabriel Brugni da Cruz and Marina Moretti, who dedicated their time and effort to teaching me the ins and outs of this beautiful and crazy business.
