We had the good fortune of connecting with Miracle Valenzuela Everett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Miracle, why did you pursue a creative career?
I always enjoyed making some form of art from drawing, to writing music. When I got to high school, I pushed myself by joining choir and performing in front of others, even though I was more comfortable behind the scenes. I went into college performing original songs, watching more queer cinema and blogging on tumblr. By the time I graduated college, I had knowledge and experience from my psychology degree and artistic endeavors.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One of my main goals is to take my emotions and alchemize them into art that offers myself some relief, and hopefully connects with others. I am constantly working towards building my self esteem and remembering that the simple details of daily life can be the most impactful in storytelling. I am most proud of completing “A Wedding to The Diego” the short film, being able to view it on screen with audiences and hearing what stood out to folks. I love to learn and take classes, online, in person, and talking with people about what inspires them. I’ve learn a lot about my relationship to film over the years. I love post production, I love planning, and I love creating accessible sets. I’ve learned that mental and physical health matter immensely, especially in a medium like film. I want the world to know that following your gut, or your intuition with creativity, can be the best north star, though not always an easy one, to follow.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Recently my favorite spots in Los Angeles are the physical media stores. Specifically, Cinefile, Whammy Analog Media, Videotheque and Vidiots. Grabbing a coffee and browsing these shops are a dream afternoon for me. Then maybe a dinner at the Farmer’s Market and a drink at Tramp Stamp Granny’s.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to both of my grandmothers who showed me in their unique ways how to appreciate creativity. My grandmother on my mom’s side was wonderful at hair design and sewing. My grandmother on my dad’s side had a deep love for live chamber music and the fine arts. I love them both and they are with me in my heart always, even though they are no longer with us today.
