We had the good fortune of connecting with Aimee Monterrosa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aimee, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
In a world that at times keeps us in continual survival mode, the core mission of my business is to engage individuals in the belief that thriving is accessible and that healing is necessary path to experience a healthier version of themselves. Being a person of color, we aren’t always given a voice to feel connected to our story and personal power, its my hope that both in my therapy practice and the launch of a wellness brand (later this year) that I can continue to encourage healing, confidence building and boost resiliency. We have the power individually and collectively, to inspire a real shift & focus on mental health by creating safe dialogue, much needed services and innovative products that shed the heaviness of stigma and allow folks to understand and redefine their healing journeys and their experience of the world.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a therapreneur, a therapist in private practice nurturing the growth and innovation of a wellness brand! We have developed services and products that are a reminder to trust the unapologetic glow waiting to be unleashed. I have experienced the not so pretty things this world can at times expose us to and it has taught me to redefine my belief in myself and my ability to thrive. I have been in this field 10 plus years and have the same passion today that I did as a newbie trying to navigate healing and wellness. I am most proud of the impact I have on people and their belief in healing the heaviest parts of their lives. I’ve had people that believed in my skills that paved a way for me to continue growing and learning. This has been a side passion project that has not been easy to balance with a 9-5 gig but the more you trust in yourself and the more unapologetic you are about who you are becoming, the easier it becomes to prioritize what’s important to you! I want people to realize the more we know about ourselves, the more we trust ourselves, and the more we can reach a level of thriving that just sits right with our soul! This business and our brand is all about self-love and celebrating resilience!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love PCH drives and hikes with ocean views either in Malibu or PV, especially early morning. I love food and we have a buffet of dope options here, since it’s LA we gotta do tacos because who doesn’t love a good taco spot, Leos on La Brea or Baja California Fish Tacos in the South Bay are a must! For a fancier experience, MTN Venice, is delicious. Hilltop for some coffee, SK Donuts for sure! Stevie’s on Pico and Grand Central Market in DTLA are also good spots to try. Olympic SPA (Korean Spa) is a must for some good self-love and self-care! There’s just so many options, I am a very low-key person so as long as their is good food and some great company, LA is pretty damn magical!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The supportive loving circle of women in my life that have always believed in me even when I didn’t fully see myself or trust my own vision of the life I wanted to create. They supported, challenged and affirmed me as I was going through the process of discovering my own personal power. I think about my cousin, Karina, who has supported any idea I’ve had. I think about my colleagues who challenge me by encouraging my growth and risk taking. I think about my business partner Dee, for going on this crazy ride of thriving we both share a strong commitment and vision for. I think about folks that have given me the opportunities to grow and taught me that business ownership was within my reach. The community of theraprenuers I have learned so much from in terms of redeeming a career in mental health. All strong, vulnerable, badass women, that give me something to aspire to! There would be no “The Therapist Spot” without their stories and support.
