We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Robaina Janssens and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I grew up in Southern California. My parents are From Argentina, they traveled here when they were 9 and 13 and met in los Ángels. My father has always been a hard working entrepreneur and my mother was always crafting, she loved doing murals, shirts, hats, sewing, you name it. So I didn’t find it a surprise to see myself a creative entrepreneur as a balloon artist.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Becoming successful in anything is never easy and takes a lot of work and practice. You’d think balloons are easy but most figure out that’s far from the truth. I’ve had to specialize in balloon weaving for sculpture, balloon twisting for smaller sculptures, invest in all sorts of welded metal stands in all shapes and sizes as well as equipment from air generators, nozzles, tanks etc. One thing I’ve learned when actually taking a cake decoration class in 2004, was that never expect anything to be perfect, always have a plan b to fix anything that goes wrong. So I’ve taken that advise on through life and balloons. If something pops, have a plan B! I have to know how to repair them at a moments notice.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Luckily and thankfully I live in the beautiful Temecula Wine Country of Southern California so my answer would be, Vineyards! There is a variety of fun & unique wineries to visit here in The Valley. Peltzer Winery is a very fun rustic themed farm and Winery, Akash Winery is very innovative, delicious wines and hip events and I really enjoy The Oak Mountain Caves winery as well as their Bistro. Avénsole is another beautiful spot and offer a fun seater paired tasting which is always a fun elevated wine tasting experience. There’s so many amazing wineries to list them all but those are just a few of my must Visit wineries for anyone visiting.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Success is something that we strive for and cannot be accomplished without hard work & dedication but most importantly support. I am most thankful for the overwhelming support from my community, family, friends and local businesses. The one opportunity that always sticks out in my mind was when Chef Santiago of The Donut Bar wrote me himself to ask if I would do Grand Opening Balloons for one of their locations. I was so blow away to have a celebrity, and someone so branded, notice me on Instagram. To this day I still smile and get goosebumps thinking about it. Very thankful he chose my small business for such a wonderful opportunity to grow.
