We had the good fortune of connecting with Alan Katz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alan, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Marriage is one of the most fundamental rights and ideals that humans can experience. My job is to fulfill that experience for couples. When I started Performing Wedding Ceremonies I didn’t really realize the impact that I was having on the world, and the community at large. Marriage and Weddings are things that you see in the movies with all the glitz and glamour and drama. But in its purest form marriage is a deep commitment the two people are making beyond anything else. Sometimes it’s made in haste sometimes it’s thought out and planned. Who’s to say which one works better than the other. All I know is that when I’m standing there joining a couple together it is the highest high that I have ever had. The fact that I am committing to people to one another can be pretty mind blowing. Will they work out and will there be a success I don’t know but in my heart and in my soul I hope they do. I do see some people who I see who should never be married to each other then I see others who are totally made for the person standing across from them. I enjoyed being in the front row of the coolest show in town. Because that’s what I think I’m doing I’m putting on a show. They are the stars, I am the announcer, The wedding party is the supporting cast and the guests are their audience. My job is to help them create the greatest show on earth and after it’s all over everybody stands up an applauded and they go have the wrap party. When it’s all said and done that’s really what I do. Having done over 6000 weddings I’ve seen the good bad and the ugly. But I also see the deep love and commitment and passion that everybody dreams of having. And during my travels from Wedding to Wedding I was able to find that dream come true and the love of my life. I realize that if I could find that love and that commitment and that passion, I hope the others are able to find it as well.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art comes in the form of words. I am able to utilize the stories of my couples and make it relatable to the people who are watching the ceremony. Being able to create a tapestry of words that people can actually listen to at a wedding and not just rolled her eyes seeing It is the same old thing. The pleasure that I get is the comments I hear afterwards from their family and friends on how I was able to utilize words and create an amazing moments in time an auditory piece of art.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Southern California is one of the greatest places in the world. I would show them all the cool places, within an hours drive we can be at the top of a mountain, at the beach, in the desert, in the suburbs and in the city. There’s something around every corner. It’s my job to steer them in the right direction.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shout out goes to The woman I fell in love with. She makes every wedding that I do mean something even more. Before I met her the words that I would say were empty and meaningless but the moment I met her every word that I say has such a deep meaning because I feel it in my soul and I feel it in my heart and I know and hope that if the couple that I am Marring could ever experience what I feel and I know they are going to have an amazing life together
