We had the good fortune of connecting with Alejandra Ochoa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alejandra, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
After high school, I struggled to find something that I was passionate about that I could turn into a career. I would see my friends and family going to universities and pursuing “adult jobs”, and I felt pressure to find a similar career path. I didn’t end up finishing school because I couldn’t find what really called me. That led to me jumping from job to job trying to figure out what I liked. I was unhappy working office jobs, and sitting at a desk. It just wasn’t for me. I finally sat down with myself and thought about what I really loved and what really spoke to me. Growing up I always struggled with my skin. I had cystic acne, and that really affected my self esteem when I was younger. Because of that, I’ve always been into skin scare. Because my mother struggled with the same issues when she was younger, she always passed on her knowledge to me. So from an early age I was always trying to new things to find what worked for me. This led to me searching for a career in skincare. With the support of my family and my boyfriend, I finally decided to pursue this career. I enrolled back in school, and as soon as I got licensed I joined my sister at her salon. It’s been the best decision I’ve made thus far. And I truly believe I have found my calling. I love making people feel beautiful in their own skin, and helping them achieve their best skin!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think what sets me apart from others is that I’ve been where my client is. I’ve struggled with my skin. I can connect with my clients on a deeper level because of that. I truly know what they are going through and empathize with them. I care about my clients specific needs and concerns and I get so excited when we start seeing some positive changes! Many estheticians only provide result driven treatments, and many just do relaxing facials. In my treatment room I like to incorporate both! Who says you can’t be relaxed while getting result driven skincare?! I want everyone to know that when you step into my treatment room, it’s a judge-free environment. My workplace is a safe place for everyone, no matter the age, race, gender, or background. I want whoever comes into my workplace to feel comfortable with whatever skin concern they may have. And I want them to leave with confidence.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The thing I love most about living in LA is that you can do anything! You can be at the beach one moment, and in the mountains the next! If I had someone visiting from out of town, I’d definitely start with Long Beach. We would go have some brunch by the marina, then after that head to the beach. I love to go hiking, so we would definitely hit up some hiking spots, or the Culver City stairs, to get that workout with a beautiful view! And then last but not least have some dinner and drinks in downtown LA! I love exploring new restaurants, especially anything with a view of the beautiful city! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I really couldn’t do this without the help of my mom, my sister, and my boyfriend. They have each individually helped and supported me in different ways throughout this journey.
