Meet Aleo Covi | Artist and Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Aleo Covi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aleo, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
That’s a great question. Being an artist, I’m very aware that this whole creative career is a risk I’m willing to take. I’ve taken risks before and some didn’t end well, while other risks resulted in very big rewards.
What are some risks I’m taking? Well, right now, it’s sticking to art. Being creative as a profession is riddled with doubt, and constantly having to check in with myself because I’m worried I’ll be irresponsible and burn out by taking on too much at the same time.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
There’s a lot that sets me apart from other creatives. There are other artists who are former software developers. Others have had serious mental health journeys. Some have struggled with homelessness. Many incorporate themes from their spirituality into their work. Others may create art to cope with the truth that parenthood will likely forever be beyond their grasp. However, all these experiences merge into the specific cocktail that is my own.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Museum of Neon Art in downtown Glendale is great! I’m also looking forward to visiting the upcoming Armenian American museum nearby when it opens. Brand Library is wonderful too.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my family and friends, who provide support in ways that can only be described as a privilege. In past interviews elsewhere, I stated that I’m mostly self-taught. Even though there are elements of self-education in my creative journey, I really have to give credit where credit is due. My college art professors (such as April Bey) significantly guided me in solidifying my creative voice and definitely built up my skills through lots of activities, assignments, and discussions.
