We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alex, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
Do What You Can’t. Probably one of the only quotes/affirmations i’ve ever resonated with. To me this means what it literally says. DO WHAT YOU CAN’T. I like that particular affirmation because to me it proves that despite if you’ve been told by others that you cant, it’s never the case. You always can. Therefore, DO WHAT YOU CAN’T.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is something I always take pride in and gives me more excitement than anything else. I feel that what sets me apart from others is my interpretation of what an idea could look like. Art is something that is subjective and with cinematography that same sentiment applies. I wish it was a smooth road. I feel like there were a few things that were put against me especially when I was starting out but I feel that the main thing that made it challenging was not knowing where to start or what I needed to do but after I figured out what direction I needed to go in was when things started to work in my favor.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I can’t say that I have spots that I frequent a lot in LA HOWEVER, I will say that the Broad and the fashion/arts districts are probably some of my favorite places in LA. There’s just tons of art everywhere and as an artist it’s always something that I can appreciate and admire while walking around. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
If there was anyone I would credit my success to, it would probably be my high school film teacher. In high school I wasn’t the best in terms of academics and never had any ambition for anything and he was the one person who not only put me in line, but gave me something to have ambition and drive for though his film class. With that class came the opportunity to explore my creativity as well as give me a sense of purpose that I had been searching for in life.
