We had the good fortune of connecting with Alizabeth Bean and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alizabeth, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
My mind doesn’t stop, I am constantly thinking of ideas for photoshoots, locations, outfits, etc. When an idea comes to me that I can’t get out of my head, I make it a priority to bring this idea to life. Next thing you know I’m shooting that idea in a week. Ultimately, I do not ignore the ideas I have flowing in my mind.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I always loved taking pictures of everything. It wasn’t until I moved to California that I got into film photography. Even when I first moved to California, taking pictures was just a hobby. Then I met my friend Nicole Lewis and we both nerded out over film photography. I had become so obsessed with taking pictures, to where I started to plan concept shoots with friends and photo assisting photographers. Next thing you know, people are reaching out through Instagram and email asking what my rates are! It was a journey full of practice, consistency, patience and the constant hunger to learn and grow, that got me where I am to today. I still have the same mindset because I never want to stop learning and growing with photography.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting me, I would start off by taking them to a boxing class in Santa Monica, then we would get food at Great White in Venice. After we refreshen, we would then go shopping at the Artists and Flea market on Abbot Kinney, we would then go to a friends place before going out to dinner at the Calabra in Santa Monica!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate my shout out to my good friend, Nicole Lewis. Nicole is a photographer and has been for 10+ years. She guides, supports, and encourages me. I think of her as family.
The photo of me was taken by Nicole Lewis All the other photos were taken by me.
