We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Massi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Being a risk taker is not being afraid or effected by the answer ‘No’ or failure. I have the mind set that ‘No’ is only temporary. It’s important to learn how to confidently ask for what you want. The only risk is receiving a ‘No’ and that isn’t a big deal because all you need is 1 ‘Yes.’ If I listened to people or stopped after hearing ‘No’ the millionth time then I wouldn’t be where I am today. And in regards to failure it’s essential to experience to get it perfect.
Please tell us more about your work. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I have always known that I wanted to work in the fashion industry. I began on the track of becoming a fashion designer but life choices guided me to make a living as a wardrobe stylist. I have enjoyed the journey both the highs and the low lows. Maybe it’s my Sagittarius sign but even my worst failures I have remained positive and blissfully optimistic. Fashion tells a story of your life and is a history lesson to the cultural evolution of the world. During graduate school I took the class History of Fashion and there I truly appreciated how powerful clothing and style are. Wardrobe is more than what meets the eye. As a creative the mark that shows ‘I was here’ is my original combination of color, print and texture that states a message without words.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First stop is Great White in Venice for a matcha latte and smoothie bowl. Then, of course, we need to do a little shopping on Abbot Kinney. For rooftop drinks at sunset my go to spot is the roof at 1 Hotel.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ll always thank and be forever grateful to my family and best friend for their eternal support and love. At the same time, Snoop Dogg’s speech when he accepted his star on Hollywood Walk Of Fame in 2018 still rings true for me.
