We had the good fortune of connecting with Andie Miller & Megan Schmer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andie Miller, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
Our end goal is to encourage more individuals to stop shopping fast fashion. Wearing vintage clothing and shopping second hand is not only fun because you get to support a small business, but you’re also prolonging the life of some great pieces of history, AND helping reduce the amount of clothing that gets dumped into landfills every year! By the end of our career, we would love to have a storefront! But until then, helping inform about reducing mass waste, and helping people have a more colorful and reused vintage style will do.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our business is Cackling Caps Collective, and we are Andie and Megan! We are an online Vintage clothing store, that primarily sells items from the 50’s-70’s. We are all about preserving the life of old clothing, which means we revive, mend, up-cycle, and most importantly save clothing from being sent to a landfill. Our shop could be described as fun, colorful, and/or psychedelic in some aspects. We love vintage clothing that tells a story! We started Cackling Caps back in 2019, and have known each other for upwards of 12 years now. We have steadily been growing a shop following since the beginning, and just recently we started to gain some traction in the community. I think the biggest lesson we’ve learned along the way is to stay true to ourselves and our own personal style!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We both reside in North County San Diego. We absolutely love to cruise over to our favorite vintage/antique mall Seahive in Oceanside, and we also frequent two other very cute vintage stores, Ransack, and Captains Helm. If you’re looking for some real good food we love Plant Power, Local Tap House, or Pizza Port! And If you’re down south in San Diego, we absolutely adore the restaurant Kindred for all the vegan yummies. And depending on what happens this year with COVID and all, we CAN’T WAIT to get back to seeing live music at Belly Up, Soda Bar, Casbah, and The Observatory. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We are so lucky to be surrounded by so many supportive friends, our partners, and each other. Building the business together instead of individually has been such a treat, because we are able to constantly encourage each other and hype ourselves up! We also definitely owe a lot to the amazingly supportive Vintage clothing/goods community on Instagram as well. We have been so lucky to connect with so many incredible vintage sellers across all of the US via that platform. We also recently did an event with SD Vintage Collective, and the work they put into putting that event on did not go unnoticed!
