We had the good fortune of connecting with Anja Skodda and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anja, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always wanted to start my own business as I saw my father running his. I started 2 other ventures before HAPPYBOND. HAPPYBOND simple started because of a special bond with my English bulldog Tony. HE had issues in his shoulder and could not skateboard (his passion) anymore. My science background enabled me to formulate HAPPYAGAIN our first SKU. He was back within a week and I knew I need to help more dogs.
What should our readers know about your business?
HAPPYBOND became simply a life mission to give back to our best friends. We provide science based nutrition to keep your dog or pet healthy, we provide Healthspan knowledge to inform pet parents about the importance of the whole health: Body, Mind and Play and we create experiences to strengthen those bonding moments. An idea to a business is a long way and it is never easy. I sure had to overcome plenty of hurdles and challenges but if you are passionate about what you do and surround yourself with an army of cheerleaders you will overcome nearly anything. The biggest challenge to overcome was to trust myself and not search for answers elsewhere. It took some time and several lessons to learn, but still work in progress.
I am extremely proud of having supporters and partners like Cesar Millan and Halle Berry that share our vision.
I want to give pet parents the power and knowledge to make the right decision for their pet and not be guided by the biggest marketing campaign and promised claims. Transparency, clean ingredients and new science to understand labels and your dogs needs. HAPPYBOND wants to give back to our dogs, help them live happier and healthier
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would start with some art galleries in downtown, my favourite is Hauser & Wirth and have lunch there too. Followed by a dip in the pool of Soho Warehouse.
A beach trip to Malibu’s lonely beaches where you can bring your dog to spend the day and watch the surfers or surf yourself and have a sunset picnic at the beach.
I would definitely stroll around Venice, after a beach run in the morning, thrift shopping on Main Street and Rosé at Le Zinqué.
Breakfast at Superba, Hiking in the palisades or at Griffith Park with amazing views and some hip restaurants in Silverlake. But my favourite spot is right in my backyard under our pine tree and grapes, enjoying barbecue and drinks with Nando snoring right next to us on the sofa….
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people a long the way that influenced, mentored, helped and encouraged me, but the biggest thrive to continue the work are those special fury friends around us. Tony made me start the business, thousand of dogs made me continue to fight because I saw their progress and to date they are our emotional support in every challenge that live throws at us, they always put a smile on our faces and remind us to live in the now, not dwell in the past or wait for the future. I would dedicate this to all our canine friends out there, may you all be treated with the respect and love you deserve!
