We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Getzinger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, what do you attribute your success to?
Customer Service is the most important to any business. But I go above and beyond. When a client comes to me, it can sometimes be awkward and they can come to be a bit nervous. (I do mostly hair removal and mostly Brazilians) So whether it’s talking through it, making them laugh or using breathing methods to help with the pain, I am there for them. I also study and try any product I sell or offer. I believe in my services and products because of how much better my skincare results are personally. Skin is very complicated and asking the right questions is key. And, I always follow up the next day to address any questions or concerns. Many people are new to sugaring hair removal and so I explain every step and all of the benefits that go along with it. I also explain at home care to achieve optimal results.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am so passionate in what I do. I specialize in sugaring hair removal. What’s that, you may ask. Well, let me tell you! My motto is “Once you sugar, you won’t go wax!” Sugaring hair removal consists of only sugar, lemon, and water. Because it is all natural, there will be minimum skin irritation if any. It’s applied at room temperature so it will never burn or scar your skin. Sugar does not breed bacteria like wax does. And because unlike wax (and don’t be fooled. when you hear people say they use sugar wax, it’s still wax. Make sure it’s sugar paste) sugar does not adhere to live skin cells. It only removes dead skin so it’s a natural exfoliating. The sugar is also removed in the direction of the hair growth so it’s less painful and the best part of all, your hair grows back less and less and can even lead to permanency!!! I love introducing new clients to this technique and I educate them during the process so they know exactly what benefits they are receiving. I never want my clients to feel like I am rushing them. So, I get to know each client’s needs. Some want to be in and out, and some may have more anxiety in the process and need more time.  Owning a business will always have challenges. Success doesn’t come easy, but the work you put in is worth it! COVID in California has been a challenge on its own. Having to close 3 times now can get very discouraging. In February I was in the process of opening my second location and I have now had to close one of them. Things in life happen that are out of our control. The safety of my clients is much more important and I will still be here when the state re-opens. Determination is key in having a successful business.  I am a fighter!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
San Diego is a great city with so many things to do and so many places to eat. I would plan a boat trip, pop some bubbles and relax and enjoy the views around the city. We would also have to take a trip to Coronado Hotel and have drinks on the beach after driving around the town. Balboa park is an amazing place to walk around and tour museums, and when we get hungry, we would eat at the Prado. San Diego is also known for a few celebrity chefs. One of my favorite restaurants owned by Brian Malarkey, is Herb and Wood in Little Italy. They have the best gnocchi I have ever tasted. Richard Blais also just opened a new restaurant at the Hyatt in Carlsbad called Ember and Rye. Innovative cocktails and food with an amazing view. Then on the days we just want to chill, we would go the beach in Carlsbad after picking up some burritos from Especial El Norte. Or if it’s cold, they have the best chicken soup I have ever had.  In the morning, I like to take everyone to The Goods in downtown Carlsbad which is the best doughnut shop. We would have to go early, since they usually sell out. The list is never ending!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My friends and family have been my support, specifically my husband. He will not be afraid to tell you that he loves facials and skincare. If I am trying new products or techniques, he is first in line to let me try them on him. And of course, giving me advice on how to make the experience even better. And I cannot leave out the support of my clients. So many of them I consider my friends now and have been there and supported me through great times and the challenging times.
