We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Ms. AyeVee Vargas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley Ms. AyeVee, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“He that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” – Matthew 7:8
I first read this quote in one of my favorite books, “As a Man Thinketh” by James Allen. So many years later I find myself repeating this short poem-like phrase in moments of uncertainty. Sometimes we just have to be brave enough to question and bold enough to try.
I love this quote because it’s a beautiful reminder to keep being brave.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
If there is anything I am most proud of when it comes to my writing, it’s how honest it is. Bravery is powerful and there is nothing braver than telling truth. I hope that not matter what happens in my career and life that I will always be brave enough to tell my authentic story. My journey from open mic night’s at a local sports bar to featured lecturer at a University had a far balance of challenge and ease. I’m grateful for the ebb and flow of things. Growth is complicated at times but always a blessing.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a Vegas local, I feel like this is a common occurrence. The question, “Where should we go when we’re in town?” is almost a cliche at this point. Despite a few eye-rolls, us locals still have some top noche suggestions to offer.
If we are talking about The Strip, the Bellagio Hotel & Casino is a MUST. They have the world-famous, and free, water show that runs every 30 minutes. They recently upgraded and have twice as many fountains dancing in sync with everyone’s favorite songs. Then head inside to the breathtaking Arboretum, also free, that is upgraded seasonally. The arboretum is my all-time favorite Vegas spot. The Bellagio has some of the best restaurants the Strip has to offer but they could easily break the bank if you’re not cautious with plates ranging from $50-$200 each. Definitely check out the online menus BEFORE heading out for the night. Lastly, there is one of the very few galleries of fine art in Las Vegas. Reservations are required, so plan aheah.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shout out Clark County Poet Laureate Heather Lang-Cassera. She had been in my corner since the beginning. Not only was she the first to publish my work but she also continues to help our community fall in love with poetry over and over again. I am so grateful to be her colleague and friend.
