We had the good fortune of connecting with Aspyn Nykohl and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aspyn Nykohl, what do you want people to remember about you?
First, I’d like to be remembered for my covenant with God. Then motherhood, because that’s my real legacy! I had to heal from intense childhood trauma and as a mother, the way I raise my son is my truest obedience to God.
My faith and ability, to inspire the world by living purposefully, are things I want to be remembered for, also. Being a child of God, creative storytelling, copywriting, fearlessness, spreading the word, and my future humanitarian works will also be a part of my remembrance.
PYNN’d was not built overnight. I’ve been writing since 7th grade. It took a constant Me VS Me battle, to dust my shoulders off, pop my collar, and start a company without a real clientele base. Trust me, if you can think of it, I’ve probably overcome it. But, God shed my old skin and made me like new. Nothing is on me but everything is in me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Whew! Organizing my thoughts is a huge part of my professional “busy-ness”, these days. I always have new ideas for innovations; so, most of my time is also spent researching how to make things happen.
In addition to copywriting, booking interview talent, and writing articles, I’m planning a Content Creation Retreat for women in business, in Los Angeles this October. And, as the co-founder of Business Besties Int’l, I’m excited for women to experience such dopeness. Shoutout to Tori for being my cool ass biz bestie.
Fun fact: I write everything by hand before I even touch my computer.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hmm, for a good time in my city, I’m definitely throwing on shades and rollin’ with my friend to the Malibu Wine Safari, then laying out at the beach!
Pink penne pasta, dessert wine, and a cremé puff at La Petite Four for lunch, Cacio e Pepe at The Nice Guy for dinner, and the Rooftop by JG for brunch or drinks is totally happening.
And, since she’s my bestie, she already KNOOOWS we have Blaze on the way, before we catch the nightlife views on Mulholland Drive.
There are lots of fly things to do in LA. We could really just coast down PCH with Tupac blasting. That’s how beautiful it is here.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely my father. He has been influential in my life with his honesty and support. Whether I onboard a new client or do a DIY photoshoot in my living room, he’s my biggest cheerleader! It’s like having a personal hype-man and never having to worry about if it’s genuine.
My dad taught me everything, from understanding God and banking to the fundamentals of dating. Now, he’s here for my son as a strong, male role model. And, as his eldest child, he’s teaching me how to carry out his legacy once he moves on to the next stage of life.
Growing up, I was kept from my father and it took a long time to get here, so it’s even more special to have the relationship we have.
Also, the advice I get from my grandmother is top-tier! Her wisdom and feminine energy are unmatched. So many lessons she’s taught me will never be forgotten— the most memorable being, “Stop hating the player and get better at the game! Talking about people blocks your blessings.”
